Nov 8, 2009 - The only aspect of karate is his timing and distancing. He's also BJJ, Sumo, Wrestling. MMA fighters are specifically trained. Even machidas karate is his own modified style adapted for the cage. Anyone who saw his fight against shogun will know a major flaw has been found in his style. I'm not saying karate is bad...there must be some hardcore karate dojo like machidas but recently karate has popularised to the extent that theres mcdojos everywhere. Just my oppinion, don't want an argument.

Nov 8, 2009 - St.pierre = Kyokushin Karate Chuck liddell = Tattoo on his head is a karate tat. Lyoto Machida = Karate Guy mesger = Karate Bas Rutten = Karate You'll find the best do a bit of both ;)

Nov 9, 2009 - I have done karate for 7 years, but unfortunately I have to agree with you. It is very hard to find good dojo-s nowadays.
jiujitsuBlackbelt911 Says:
Nov 9, 2009 - i agree turismogamer. karate is all timing, but if u watch mma\ufc fighting ull c how the jiu-jitsu, wrestlers and grapplers can go all out for 15 minutes and kick these little thug-street-fighters asses
forbesfoofighters Says:
Nov 9, 2009 - uhm chuck liddel and gsp have little to no jiu jitsu game at all and featherweight is not a legitimate weight division in mma.
sk8pirata Says:
Nov 10, 2009 - i agree w you, but fighting has evovled
thirteenfingers Says:
Nov 10, 2009 - I can't say I care much for watching fights so which pro does what isn't important to me, but I do have to ask... ...why, exactly, is featherweight not a legitimate weight division in MMA? As a featherweight Mixed Martial Artist I find that comment somewhat odd.
forbesfoofighters Says:
Nov 10, 2009 - im only talking when you get up into the high ranked title challengers there just aren't nearly enough good featherweights to have real competition in that weight division plus the lack of power in the striking is kind of a minus to me if i were you i would bulk up to lightweight but thats irrelevant.
thirteenfingers Says:
Nov 10, 2009 - The problem with a featherweight bulking up to lightweight, is they will be facing not just natural lightweights, but also welterweights and possibly even middleweights who have cut to make weight. The strength difference there is going to be pretty significant. As for lack of striking power, sure, there may be less than heavier classes, but MMA is about far more than striking. The lighter categories can be a lot more technical. Great if you appreciate the complexity of MMA.
forbesfoofighters Says:
Nov 10, 2009 - yea i agree also the hand speed they can possess could easily make up for power in some circumstances but thats not talking from experience now as im 185.
thirteenfingers Says:
Nov 11, 2009 - I got your reply in my emails this morning and laughed. Not because of something you said, but because I'm having a discussion about watching martial arts when I actually don't enjoy watching it all that much. Weird eh?
uwishuwerecool024 Says:
Nov 11, 2009 - youll find karate is a bullshit martial art. almost every karate dojo in the US promotes you when you pay every month. the place where i do jujitsu tests you when your ready and you dont always pass. they dont let you have you black belt til your 16 because of the things they teach you. karate can suck my left
forbesfoofighters Says:
Nov 11, 2009 - i just dont understand how you claim to do it but can't enjoy watching it to me thats weird. having "true" love for the sport and watching how the best in the world do it will significantly improve your own skill as a fighter.
sk8pirata Says:
Nov 11, 2009 - love this vid
sk8pirata Says:
Nov 11, 2009 - what's the name of the song, im not sure if it's subs from hell, coz i can't find it, this song pumps me up
thirteenfingers Says:
Nov 12, 2009 - I watch fights for technique and approach sometimes, but generally don't find it that entertaining. It's not something I'd go out of my way to watch. UFC105 is in my town this weekend, I'm in 2 minds about going. I'm basically down to, if I can get a ticket for a half decent seat for about £5 or £10 from a tout/scalper once the event is underway - I'll go. Otherwise I'm not bothering. It's not "the sport" that I love, but doing it. Big difference (and got the bruises to show for it! - haha).
matiasddsa Says:
Nov 12, 2009 - BJJ is just for those who never learned standing Judo.
sk8pirata Says:
Nov 12, 2009 - not really, wtf, BJJ is for everybody, and the reason why was this fighting style was created is for a smaller weaker having a chance against a larger stronger opponent, and Helio didn't have those attributes to pull off moves in Judo, but he still became a 6th Dan Black Belt in Judo, 10th Dan Black Belt in Gracie Jiu jitsu
overthehill91 Says:
Nov 14, 2009 - But BJJ is way better on the ground, and there are flying submissions so you obviously don't have a clue what you're talking about.
matiasddsa Says:
Nov 15, 2009 - yes, i believe that bjj is better on the ground, but come on, flying submissions, if you know any standing judo no one will manage to perform a flying subimission to you.
2submit Says:
Nov 17, 2009 - hehe he your one of those guys whos a judo who got beat by bjj heh
matiasddsa Says:
Nov 17, 2009 - i dont deny that i would get beaten up by a bjj guy who has been training as long as i have trained judo. but he dare to stand up i would easily beat him up.
2submit Says:
Nov 17, 2009 - judo is a great art your lucky your good with throws now cross trained that with bjj you would be a dangerous man on bjj tourney..so dont hate it anymore learn it... even the gracies are blackbelt in judo though their not that great with it... in my country we have john bylon a black belt in judo and purple in bjj ... and bjj schools here in the phil give him high regards... ..i think he has a few vid posted on you tube... ive studied judo first my self before bjj..
matiasddsa Says:
Nov 19, 2009 - yes a judoka could learn a lot from BJJ. if you have trained judo and go train with bjj guys, you notice that those two are actually very very different
