Oct 26, 2009 - I believe the UK had more than enough to contend with in many countries, especially France Belgium. The Americans entered the war after Pearl Harbour. We were in it from 1939-1945. The best of our nation died young.

Nov 1, 2009 - I absolutely agree with you, Britain really stood alone for some time. Had they surrendered, who knows what the future would have brought. We Americans should be grateful for that. I've always admired that British attitude and thank God for it!

Nov 4, 2009 - To HANSCLAW: Actually it's called the Battle of Britain - and yes, Vera Lynn recorded this song at the time of this Battle in 1940 when Britain literally stood alone to fight the enemy threatening our country...it was a song dedicated to the time when the terrible war would be over, and Dover was very significant as this port in SE England was right in the heart of worst of the battle and it was shelled and bombed all the entire war - peace finally came to the famous White Cliffs of Dover.
