Aug 26, 2009 - Willie Dixon is the MAN ! Not only an incomparable upright bass player, but the writer of many mega tunes covered by rockers such as The Doors,Zep,Stones,Hendrix,Clapton, the Dead etc.He is the Great Grandaddy of Rock n Roll.He was a session man for Chess Records, and played on as well as composed countless blues classics.BIG RESPECT !

Sep 30, 2009 - *****But do not forget people like Ransom Knowling or Big Crawford who were in the bussiness before Willie Dixon! Knowling played for instance with people like Big Joe Williams(30's, 40's and again in the early 60's) and Arthur Crudup (My baby left me, That's all right mama) - Big Crawford was recorded with Muddy Waters on his early sides. I like to invite you to my BLUESCARTOONS on JIMMY REED and SONNY BOY II and soon JOHN LEE HOOKER bye

Oct 13, 2009 - near the start, around 20 seconds, if you look at him you'd sware he was a small man with big hands, but Willie Dixon was huge, so what the hell?! lol.

Oct 16, 2009 - wow! no one can play like that anymore.
supercoolreiber Says:
Oct 17, 2009 - False, many people can play like that today, in fact, some can play better. Now I'm in either of those categories myself, or anywhere near. That aside, Willie Dixon was one of the greatest musicians to play the instrument because he revolutionized it, not because of his showboating but because of his innovation. Of course he did show some great technical prowess, but when it came down do it, he was great because changed the instrument forever but still made it fun.
PinkOld Says:
Oct 21, 2009 - Who would have imagined an upright could sound so rocking? He was more than just a performer, too. Howlin' Wolf, Little Walter, and Muddy Waters all had some of their best songs written by him. Zeppelin also ripped him off, until (finally) he sued to get his royalties due him.
