Aug 15, 2009 - Oh, of course! Everyone in this film was amazing, in front of AND behind the camera. I loved Howard's performance because of the personal anguish he was able to convey on camera. Here he was an intelligent, gifted, successful young man who has risen to the top, but he feels trapped in his own skin by the negative connotations and stereotypes that go along with being black in America, and that no matter what he accomplishes, he will always feel this way. He portrayed this pain masterfully!

Aug 15, 2009 - agree completely....maybe i give the director too much credit....but from what i know....until the director sees and hears the emotions and expressions what he wants....it's going to be another take....the face when the locksmith holds what he thot was his dieing daughter....the exact moment the woman realizes the cop about to save her from the overturned car....how many takes before he got what he wanted? I loved "american beauty" as much.
