It was the fact that they're were no major empires to rule the land and Europe split up into city-states. Because of this, barbarians took over Europe and Asia. Thats why it was called the dark ages.

The war between the Byzantine Roman Empire and the Sasanian Persian Empire which wasted each other out, and then lead to a laxed civilization, poor hygiene, and manners and all sorts of ills... and finally resulted in the Justinian Plague. It wasn't until Pope Urban in the 11th century did the Roman Catholic church start to get their act together and hauled in European behavior.

For one thing athiest dont make up the majority of the population so we will have a low rate then other religions. And we will have a higher rate for educatioin and what not. If the athiest community out weighs the religious community then we can confirm that athiests are better people.
