Oct 15, 2009 - This is the conversation Jefferson had while writing: "We hold these truths to be self-evident. All men are created equally. Now go get me some food nigger or I'll kill you! liberty....justice for all."
boingo2000 Says:
Oct 17, 2009 - This scene always reminds me of Bob Newhart's "Abe Lincoln vs. Madison Avenue" routine. "Abe... you what? Instead of 'four score and seven', you want to say 87?"

Oct 29, 2009 - Oy, idiots abound. Two of the men in this scene were the chief abolitionists of their age (Adams and Franklin).
melarry Says:
Oct 29, 2009 - This is the real history. John Adams was an avowed abolitionist. He fought to have emancipation placed in the Declaration. But then I guess the idiots who instructed you were as blinded as you are.

Nov 4, 2009 - This is an amazing piece to use in the Composition classroom to examine use of language (diction) and style (elements of literature) in persuasive writing. I pair this with King's Letter from Birmingham Jail. Incredible!

Oct 10, 2009 - Well Jefferson was an abolitionist. He did manage to keep slavery out of the northwest territories. He tried keeping slavery out of all new territories east of the Appalachians but failed. He managed to abolish slave importation in Virginia and then later throughout the whole country. Unfortunately, due to Virginia laws of the time, he could not free his own slaves and then hire them on as laborers. Freeing them would have completely ruined him and made his former slaves homeless vagabonds.
