May 1, 2009 - What nonsense is this? Philosophy is "completed"? "Select" few? Selected how? And only they are capable of "conceptualizing" an instrumental reason to study philosophy? Are you one of these, or do you just believe this "select few"? I have no idea what you are trying to say.

Jun 4, 2009 - Perhaps while it might be argued by some that philosophy has no immediate practical application in some subjects or fields. Does or can it give alternative, even thoughtful, or interesting insight into a field that you might be involved in?
Mailrobot Says:
Jun 4, 2009 - of course it can. doesnt mean it'll help you get the degree in whatever.

Aug 9, 2009 - philosophy is the most basic form of knowllege. without a fundamental synthesis regarding how we aquire knowllege we cannot even begin to legitimize specialized knowllege (science).
Willferox Says:
Aug 14, 2009 - Not so serious. Its a general rant at all the people I know who havn't a clue what philosophy is / think philosophy is just the study of religion!
EducationToEmpower Says:
Aug 17, 2009 - @obglobablob Philosophy is especially useful at the elementary school level. It helps children build the most basic and essential skills. It works one's ability to reason and communicate at the same time.

Aug 24, 2009 - Don't underestimate Philosophy. Without philosophy there wouldn't be science. In ancient Greek Philosophy was considered not as a branch of science but Father of all sciences. Science was a branch of philosophy.

aaronreina Says:
Nov 1, 2009 - Religion and scripture are two different things. Scripture answeres a lot of questions philosophicaly. Religion on the other hand is an institution which allows people to believe what they like.
frithwks Says:
Nov 10, 2009 - aaron...Could it be that religion is institutionalization of a philosophical interpretation of scripture and/or ideology? Or even a philosophy that allows people to segregate others who think differently than themselves for the purpose of justifying personal and communal prejudices?
Fushapan Says:
Nov 12, 2009 - The main difference between religion and philosophy is religion uses mythology, philosophy uses reason. That said though, modern society is missing out on its poetic elements to life, so while I am not religious, I do see why it has existed for centuries. Science is only empirical and technical, thus cannot deal with the big and personal questions to life, so while good, isn't everything.

Unchapped Says:
Apr 26, 2009 - Well put.
