Nov 4, 2009 - I WISH feather plucking was stress. It would be easy to fix. I have parrots that are plucked and they are very healthy. Was Alex a wild caught bird? If so they would be guessing age. The time period she bought him from a pet store they were still importing. Also someone on line said something about toys. Wild caughts don't always care for toys and find them scarey hanging over their heads in a cage. Be kind. Most people know their animals a good as you know yours.

Nov 12, 2009 - If parrots have the ability to understand and articulate words, I wonder how come they didn't develop a language of their own. This guy here really is something else, though!

Nov 15, 2009 - You guys are idiots, do your research. He died of natural causes, and the last thing he said to his researcher before he died was "You be good, seeyou tomorrow. I love you." He also used to get bored, and do things to interupt sessions, like asking for water, and wanting to go back to his cage. He wasn't wild either, he was bought from a store when he was a year old.. As for his health, he had regular checkups and was in perfect health when he died..

Nov 15, 2009 - You guys have gotta read the book "Alex and me" I Theres a funny part were the woman gave him a piece of apple (which he hadnt had before) Now he knew Cherry, Banana and Mango but when she gave it to him she said "apple" a moment later Alex said "no, banerry" she said apple again and Alex said "no Banerry!. The reason why is because the apple she gave him was red and round like a cherry but tasted a bit like a banana. He made his own word!

Nov 16, 2009 - most parrots do communicate in a language of their own.. but its not in a speaking form. they use signals and actions. for example, when a parrot senses danger on his owners shoulder they actually bite their owner to let them know its time to go. kind of like a "hey what are we still doing here?LETS GO!" haha. most flocks have a "lookout" as well that will scream when he sees danger to let the rest know to fly away.
restaurant99 Says:
Nov 16, 2009 - This is so obviously fake. Parrots can't "talk", they only mimic human words. This woman is a fraudster, she needs to stop.
racheltllong Says:
Nov 17, 2009 - it's not fake - the woman is a linguist and there have been studies done on this.

wingzero890 Says:
Nov 18, 2009 - Alex could speak and cognate on a limited level most likely because his entire life was dedicated to learning to speak and think logically, instead of just sitting in a cage or flying around the jungle looking for food.
ZeroHumans Says:
Nov 18, 2009 - I agree with you.. Alex is unhappy and plucking feathers since he's being treated and pounded as a research subject for 12 hours a day. It's pure stress, he can't experience flight or the outdoors, or other birds in natural conditions, not even an aviary. Alex just decided the only way out was to die early.
mellymel1222 Says:
Nov 18, 2009 - If he was PERFECTLY HEALTHY when he died, then shouldn't he STILL BE ALIVE??? If Odie SNEEZES he's off to the Vet!! Alex IS one awfully smart bird, but He DOES NOT LOOK HAPPY!!
