I think it's like comparing the original Terminator and Terminator 2: The first one in each series is a classic milestone and a turing point in the genre of eeriness and psychological thrill, and the sequels are great science-fiction/action-based elaborations of the originals (if that makes sense). They are different styles, but they are both classics and compliment each other splendidly.
