Aug 17, 2009 - Just different styles I think. The Supremes in the Diana years were always more pop than rb, vocally-speaking.

hmsheppard Says:

Aug 21, 2009 - Berry Gordy had the great idea of the acts singing live to the pre-recorded music; without the Funk Brothers Co., Motown's sound was hard to duplicate live. This kept the familiarity of their sound going strong overseas. Interesting to see the seeds of divadom growing bigger in Diana Ross. But somehow I always look at Mary and Flo the most. David Ruffin's voice ranks up there as one of the best. And yes, Dusty Springfield was a bad white girl!

Aug 23, 2009 - As much as I love the Supremes, Martha and the girls had an edge on them with more grit and soul. The Supremes were a tamed act compared to the Marvelettes and Martha and her girls but we know who won over all.

Aug 30, 2009 - Sadly more proof that Martha and the Vandellas were the boss girl group of Tamla and indeed the 60s. Shame on Ross and Gordy politics cutting them out so cruelly - having seen them more recently in the 90s and more recently they still really cut it!

charlesbonares Says:

Aug 30, 2009 - Why do they cut Martha and the Vandellas? Those girls were perfect!

Aug 30, 2009 - dusty sang the hell out this song

Sep 1, 2009 - I just watched this video ... and here's my humble opinion. The Supremes looked like a total class act ... and sounded pretty amazing as well. It's a star quality thing. Martha and the Vandellas rocked ... no doubt about it. But there was something special about the Supremes. You just couldn't take your eyes off of them.

Sep 18, 2009 - my love has different facets, sometimes gritty and real like david ruffin and martha reeves. sometimes my love is quiet and gentile, more like diana ross and eddie kendricks. let's not forget it can be flirty like marvin gaye, grounded like aretha, or playful like stevie. i love all of these facets. none are favorite, just different

Oct 25, 2009 - o m g.... i love you Diana, but my heart just went to Martha Reeves. That girl just broke it DOWN! There is something just so real in her voice. I keep playing 6:57 - 8:03 over and over again. Her voice is the TRUTH.

Nov 13, 2009 - Ross the enigma of the 60's... she could do it and sell it... and cross over to the living end... what a STAR... to this very day...
