"Newhart" - Series Finale

Sep 8, 2009 - never saw this on the network run. stopped watching about 2 years earlier because the show just ran out of ideas and wasn't fresh anymore. almost unwatchable the last year. as for beating MASH, one word: Neilsens. MASH will never be eclipsed. love bob...show just should have signed off a couple years earlier. same could be said for MASH though. Roseanne was in the same boat - MY how that show SUCKED the last 3 years

Sep 13, 2009 - This was one show that was just fun to watch and really didn't change much from the beginning. The last two years got a little rediculous with the towns people being super ultra goofy, but you could tell the show was getting old and the cast and producers knew it so they were having fun. One of the best series finale's ever.

Sep 24, 2009 - Brilliant ending!! Mr. Newhart is a true entertainer, I actually loved this ending-BUT I've always been a huge "Bob Newhart Show" fan-grew up with him as a kid. Did my homework in college to the reruns, both him and Suzanne Plechette will always be masters of their craft!

Sep 25, 2009 - barney miller wasn't bad. problem is - it never really 'sizzled' and was never really a ratings staple. can't find it anywhere in syndication (same can be said for welcome back kotter)...all amounts to ratings. they can't GIVE those shows away to stations because no one will pay for the advertising to run during them - they know barney friends would put people to SLEEP - and advertisers don't like that

Nov 2, 2009 - Unless you know about the earlier show that Bob Newhart did, a decade earlier, where the other woman was his wife, you won't understand the ending. They made the whole 80s show a dream of the character from the old 70s show.

Nov 2, 2009 - They thought about doing this sort of thing for Star Trek, Deep Space Nine too, where all of Star Trek was a dream of the Benny Russell author in the 1950s. But they scratched the idea, since ST is a whole franchise, that would get messed up.

Nov 9, 2009 - Interesting that the music is different at the end.....the "NORMAL" version played the stinger from the original BOB NEWHART SHOW theme, which really hit the joke home. EIther way, still one of the best endings ever.
