Oct 17, 2009 - I totally disagree...I feel that we"Cowboys" are still around, a dying breed, yes, but a few of us still linger in the world, I still ride the west and get paid to do it, although much of it is in a pickup and not the back of a horse.

Oct 19, 2009 - great song, great pics. thank you for this. finished reading Lonesome Dove today and ache for old west days that i've never seen cattle i'll never do. i live in a city but am lucky enough to hit a trail from time to time; never happier than alone on horseback in the mountains. well said, Mr Butler. RIP America.

Oct 21, 2009 - The cowboy and really the "ol West" was a murderous period where the rich few abused everyone...How about trading smallpox blankets with the indians..and the list goes on and on

jlbutler50 Says:

Oct 22, 2009 - You give one example about the smallpox blankets ...then say the list goes on and on. So...back it up! The smallpox blankets were done during the french and indian wars by Lord Jeffrey Amherst in the mid 1700's. It had nothing at all to do with the cowboys in the mid to late 1800's.

Oct 28, 2009 - The slower you sing this song, the better it sounds. Waylon also recorded this but at a faster tempo...it is not as good as Willie's slower version.

Drydoc2 Says:

Nov 1, 2009 - I think you're right. Many artists will take a shot at a tune. All may sound good, but only one will OWN it. This one's Willie's, without a doubt.

Nov 4, 2009 - to; JDL9615 I think your video is great. I believe a couple of the pictures are of my family. I wonder if you could share your picture source as we would love to check the area where they were taken. Our ranches were in the Honey Lake Valley, Long Valley, Susanville, and the Madeline Plain. We will be grateful for any information you should pass along. Thank you

qhgypsy Says:

Nov 18, 2009 - This reminds me of my grandfather. A genuine cowboy. I have an album with pictures of him that are just like these scenes. We played this song at his funeral. Thank you Willie, and thank you for all you taught me Bob Ruth!

cameraperson Says:

Nov 20, 2009 - Because cowboys ranked low in the social structure of the period, and their numbers werent kept track of. Cowboys were "of two classes—those recruited from Texas and other States; and Mexicans, from the SW region" Census records suggest that about 15% of all cowboys were of Afro-American ancestry-ranging from about 25% in TX, less in the NW. Mexican Cowboys also averaged about 15% of the total. Cowboys came from low social classes and pay was bad. The average cowboy earned a dollar a day.

jlbutler50 Says:

Nov 20, 2009 - And your point is? Cameraperson?

cameraperson Says:

Nov 20, 2009 - It's information, and it's about Cowboys. There really is no point. Anyone heard of Tim Hus? He plays some awesome Canadian Country Cowboy tunes. Check his MySpace account. I saw him with Stompin Tom this summer, twice.

Nov 21, 2009 - I'm astonished that anyone found me out. I mean, I did everything to cover my tracks- encryption and firewalls. You name it. So, what are you? Some kind of super magnum PI?
