Every scene has a deep meaning ,describes the feelings of the characters and makes a very pointed criticism of american society of 70s.Besides this movie always gives you the feeling that under "coldness" ,finally sth tragic and frightening will happen,just like the atmosphere of a thriller. AngLi is a pure genius!!!!!

Apr 12, 2009 - I remember them filming this in my hometown (New Canaan). It was strange seeing the 1970's-era signs up on a lot of the businesses, 70's era cars parked on the streets, the pharmacy had 70's products and racks, and "icicles" hanging from the train station when it was 70 degrees out.

May 26, 2009 - "Once there was a time when families were strangers." Unlike now, is that it? Sheesh! This is probably oneof my Top10 favorite films, but the trailer doesn't do it justice. It almost leads one to believe it's in the same reign as Good Will Hunting, at least that's what the music is reminiscent of. Ang Lee really did a nice job of portraying Connecticut in the bitter fall around this time of year. Really nice. New Canaan is a nice town, too.

Well written, beautifully acted, succeeds on every level. 5 stars for this movie. If you haven't seen it, it's worth the rental. Anyone who loves movies will love this one.
