Sep 20, 2009 - I wish my sister saved the album. Davy Jones' album should be out there somewhere. Good luck.

rodanvideo Says:

Sep 20, 2009 - I poked around the web. Davy's album is dated 1965. The Monkees TV show premiered in 1966. So, he recorded My Dad before he was known as a Monkee! COOL! The album is out-of-print [vinyl]. Maybe I'll find it some day.

hippiegirl58 Says:

Sep 20, 2009 - Wow. I didn't realize he had recorded his album before he was known as a Monkee. Thanks for the info.

Sep 22, 2009 - .The day after Thanksgiving(1962),Dad and I went out to buy a Christmas tree. As we drove along ,dad flicked on the car radio to WOKY (top 40 station),and this song just came on.Was it a coincidence,or just a nice gift from God? Ill never know or even question it again, but it was all about "making memories",My mom and my dad are both deceased, but part of my dad's life still lives in this song. Thanks to both of my folks, and especially Thank you God for the Great Present called "My Dad"!!

Sep 28, 2009 - Reading touching, heart-felt memories of loved ones who sadly are no longer with us (inspired by music of course) is truely one of the blessings of youtube. I'm sure your parents loved you deeply also.

1957Drew Says:

Sep 28, 2009 - How refreshing to see genuine emotion from a cast who truely cared about each other long after the cameras stopped rolling! Three cheers for the Donna Reed Show and all those who help make it a television classic!

Oct 1, 2009 - does anyone have davy's version?

Ladyhawke1017 Says:

Oct 2, 2009 - Always one of my favorite songs and I still remember this particular episode.

lpvcrcd Says:

Oct 9, 2009 - Marie. I have seen what that horrible disease can do to great parents. He knows you love him by the love you feel for him . Life is never fair . I hope your father is around for a long time.

junemyway Says:

Oct 15, 2009 - I was 9 when this episode aired and I remember Jeff's disappointment when his Dad was late for the performance. Remember, he was a Doctor and had an emergency. Just as Jeff started to sing, his Dad walked in and saw the whole performance except for the opening few bars.

rodanvideo Says:

Oct 15, 2009 - My memory is a bit foggy.. but I don't remember it happening the way you wrote. I thought that Dr. Stone missed Jeff's entire performance. That's why he sang it again, as this clip shows.

junemyway Says:

Oct 15, 2009 - You could be right. I was 9 and I'm 56 now but I do remember seeing the original. When my Dad died in 2001, I read the opening line at his eulogy and several people approached me later stating they recognized where it came from.

Sardondi Says:

Oct 23, 2009 - Yes, Paul did a great job singing, and the emotion between him and Carl Betz was a nice touch. But what about his band?! Just five guys, and what a sound they produced!! Not only guitars and drums, but a full string section, brass and horn section, flutes, and 6-voice backup vocals, including three women!!! Paul was fine, but his friends playing backup gave the truly magnificent performance.

rodanvideo Says:

Oct 23, 2009 - It's MAGIC! BTW - I tinted Paul's shots to accent the "separation" between him and the rest of the "phantom" back-up musicians and reaction shots [Carl, Donna, etc.]. No one has picked-up on that. Many have made comments about the loving relationship shown between Jeff and dad. I doubt that they were both on the set at the same time. Film editing is.. .. errr - MAGIC!

53JoDi Says:

Oct 26, 2009 - That's the way I remember it also: on his way to the performance he came across a car accident and had to help the injured and missed the whole thing.

Nov 21, 2009 - I love this song. I lost my dad when I was 27 and my kids were only babies. They never got to know him and what a great dad he was. I did make sure that my kids were raised just like my dad raised me and I have a super relationship with my kids. and my grandkids. Thanks for making me cry. Its a beautiful song.

Used to watch DonnaReedShow but didn't see this one. See now I was only 11 at the time. Thank you for postin and thank you Paul Peterson. Remember SheCan't FindHerKe
