Oct 22, 2009 - does anyone actually understand this song? it seems like everyone acts like they are so superior, simply because they listen to this song, versus the shitty stuff of today...but still that means nothing if you dont understand the song...which i do

StimpsonJKat Says:

Oct 22, 2009 - i'm not sure if there is any social status to gain from listening to music out of this time, but i do see that egotistical phenomenon a lot in current indie scenes. there are always those who make music a style-over-substance matter, save some of the first movers, of course. oldies, on the other hand, is written in stone. you can't add or subtract its value. S+G will always be a pure channel for inspiration.

thebadseed90 Says:

Oct 26, 2009 - I completely agree. The youth today are being brain washed by greed, money, and fame by the crap art of rap and pop

lateralusschism Says:

Nov 4, 2009 - I like to thing that music is there to be interpreted by the person listening to it, for them to be able to apply their own experiences and connotations to the lyrics. So imo there's not really a single "understanding" of the song, and also imo, if you listen to simon and garfunkel that shows much more taste than listening to rap or pop, understanding or no, because rap/pop doesnt really have meaning to any of their songs

xXCoD4pWn3rXx Says:

Nov 4, 2009 - well thats a nice thought, but ultimately Simon and Garfunkle made this song to convey their own thoughts and ideas, so really there is one specific interpretation, the one that Simon n Garfunkle intended us to solve...and besides they are actually pretty specific about what the song is about and what it means

Hubs88 Says:

Nov 5, 2009 - In the intro Paul says the song is about loneliness. That's all you need to know to understand what he is singing about.

PeepTheZoobaz Says:

Nov 6, 2009 - I completely agree with you... but rap and hip-hop can deffinatly have meaning to it.. the sad truth tho is that what mainstream rap music has become is trash with NO MEANING

lukedull Says:

Nov 7, 2009 - i think you mean *definitely.

PeepTheZoobaz Says:

Nov 7, 2009 - thanks for pointing out my speling...distant stranger on the internet

sparklerocks Says:

Nov 7, 2009 - if you know it all, then why TF did you ask? art poems etc are all everyones own interpretation "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" so why do you xxcod4p want to argue with yourself?

sparklerocks Says:

Nov 7, 2009 - beautiful statement lateralusschism, and true. some artist want you the listener to make it your own. xxcodfpwn3rxx just wants to argue and be proven RIGHT in his own mind. and thats his "beauty" its pretty ugly!

thumbs70 Says:

Nov 7, 2009 - This is only 1 of a few sg songs that I always sing the Art part to. Think this is iconically them.

Stonemeister Says:

Nov 9, 2009 - The harmony at the first chorus might be the most insane thing I've ever heard. Makes the goosebumps pop out instantly.
