Noam Chomsky claims US religious extremism comes from there not being a Labour government representation since the late 1800's, and that instead the hardships that befall upon people in the US was picked up and taken advantage of by churches. I have never understood what reason creationists have to believe that, except indoctrination and a fear that their religion might be worthless if there is no creator. I guess it isn't really a question about evidence based on reality but more a strong wish that the thing you have always believed in, must be true, otherwise you would have spent so many years in believing in a joke.
