It happens in all countries when a talent show takes place that allows public voting (see Eurovision song contest as a prime example). It is our human nature. Search for "John Sargeant resignation" to read about some controversy on a UK celebrity talent show where the contestant was going through with votes when all professionals confessed he had no skills.
