Nov 22, 2009 - Racism has been apart of many cartoons, not just in Disney productions. Even to this day, there's a lot of stereotypical things out there in cartoons. However, I don't think these "innocent" cartoons would have the "charm" they were given if they didn't have these stereotypes. In fact, they're historical because it shows us who didn't live around the 1940's or so how things were perceived. They show a lot about time periods.
EBanonymous Says:
Nov 22, 2009 - oh yes Disney had plenty of racism in 90's. Start w/ Dora the stereotype Latino Pochantis as "Indain Princss", which is a sexualised image of girl who is more civilised than her tribe - of course to srve white conquerers giv them sex. That's deep colionial meaning - Aladin w/ Middle East is 'barbaric' the 'cut off your ear' remark. Disney is more subtle, but not lss racist. in Dumbo his name is 'Jim Crow' - pure blackface Racism is big - u lock up blacks for nothing today
hellogoodbye0110 Says:
Nov 22, 2009 - hahahahahahhaha what makes the red man red? *good question*
ibluri Says:
Nov 22, 2009 - Dude, Fuck you and your half baked racism theories.
GeneralThieu Says:
Nov 22, 2009 - I'm pretty sure the audio for the "blacks" singing about how the don't read and write doesn't go with the footage. And these aren't racist. These are steroetypes and while stereotypes can be wrong they do work. While not all Mexicans eat beans, most do. While not all blacks are ignorant and don't speak proper effing english, many don't speak proper english. There are enough people to make certain things stereotypes. Stereotypes are based on some truth.
qball8814 Says:
Nov 23, 2009 - Walt Disney told his family not to let the jews get ahold of Disney
damn89beans Says:
Nov 23, 2009 - When they said: "Boy we were wrong."... I was dying laughing! I found that funny. But not the video, but that part. :D
damn89beans Says:
Nov 23, 2009 - But the thing that kills me is, little kids were watching this. Disney members or creators can be racist. It's their bodies, minds, souls. But for them to try brain wash children is sickening. Very despicable!
eatmyplum Says:
Nov 23, 2009 - so according to this video asians dont have slanty eyes and we dont speak with an asian accent , according ot this video native americans never danced around fires doing chants, according to this video the producers should have made a point to add black people in the dance scene? well im half asian and half black and i see nothing wrong with this video, the maker of the video is a paranoid skitsofrenic of some sort with too much time on his time and needs to get over disney movies
eatmyplum Says:
Nov 23, 2009 - so you see king louie, an orangutan and the bear dressed as a monkey dancing around and you automatically think "black guys"? Oh and i see you also have the weird thought in your head that the romans didnt mope aorund drunk on wine and eating grapes... your idea of racism is actually what we call reality. blacks were once used as slaves, the men working there were slaves so how is it any differnet to reality? oh yeh disney are racist because they removed a racist scene from their movie....?
scathopius Says:
Nov 23, 2009 - Alright, how about this: Let's tell Disney to make clips with white people only. Then we'll have no subliminal stereotypes against people of Asian, African or South American origin! Honestly, would that be less racist? *shakes head as he smirks*
drumwraith Says:
Nov 23, 2009 - Thanks NoAntecessor. I couldn't have illustrated my point any better than you have with your own attempt at eloquence. Keep exalting yourself by looking for ignorance and racism in every white person who disagrees with you. I'm sure you'll find it. It's obvious that you are a really young guy who is overusing every new word of racist rhetoric, as soon as you learn one. Just an angry adolescent trying to match up to the big boys. Don't try so hard. We all go through it.
SaramisKismet Says:
Nov 23, 2009 - Scat = jazz, a big partof African American culture at the time, and a common racial slur for black people is to call them apes or monkeys. So putting the two together, and making the apes seem wild and foolish, yeah that's suspect.
SaramisKismet Says:
Nov 23, 2009 - They're not racist NOW, but they're racist forputting it in the movie in the first place. You just admitted that is is a 'racist scene from their movie' so you agree they were once racist. The removal is a sign ofprogress.
Alassenya Says:
Nov 23, 2009 - I could write a huge paper on this! You people need to remember two things. First thing the time that the above was in. Many things we wouldn't accept as PC NOW were at the time the movie was made. Second I don't think Disney ever intended for anything in the above to be mean to the people they were representing.
CoalarDrake Says:
Nov 23, 2009 - Well, for the times that all of those works were produced, that kind of thing was acceptable. (not now, of course.) Hell, when I watched them, I didn't catch on to any of that. The crows were crows and the cats were cats, not Asians or African Americans. Besides, I don't think Disney was trying to brain wash anyone. Have you seen the BugsBunny cartoons from that time? They were WORSE. :P (don't see anyone yelling about them though...)
OkypeteHarpy Says:
Nov 23, 2009 - Actually, The Jungle Book is set in India, not Africa.
sagalla Says:
Nov 24, 2009 - "denigrated" should be a racial slur itself.
psv4ever1989 Says:
Nov 24, 2009 - I think honestly that you have no clue what racism is. Curtainly your little clip didn't convince me. So what are Disney movies? Nazi propoganda? Disney is from a time that having a somewhat stereotypical tone against black people was exeptable. Nowadays people like you want to be so politically correct that you create you own racism. So you probably one of those retarded idiots who can't see a film in its context. Big Whoop wanna fight about it?
EBanonymous Says:
Nov 24, 2009 - This isn't PC. Its about respect. Ex: Reverse the question: "What made the 'nigger' black?" 'Nigger' is a slur JUST like 'injun' 'redman' 'sqaw' Would that be ok for blacks racist slurs? No. So then WHY ok be racist towards 'Indians?' This video - among others - makes openly racist comments, even asking why they're not white like us. What does that say about the moral climate in US? This is old, but that people don't even see it shows how profound racism is. NA wre victims of genocide
drumwraith Says:
Nov 24, 2009 - There's no attacking of any one group in these videos....just Walt Disney's attempt to show the "Wonderful World of Color", which was the name of the TV show that made him famous. It just depends upon where your mind is at, and which self serving bias you run things through. Take time to consider POV's and you'll see that all races are "attacked"....if you want to call it an attack. I don't expect some to see that, with their eyes closed, though. Really good video, except for the racism slant.
151292291 Says:
Nov 24, 2009 - OMG it is only Disney it is not supposed to be taken seriously, it is for ting children who don't know any better so leave it will you.
Mancini234 Says:
Nov 24, 2009 - This is fucking ridiculous. Seriously.
neoYTPism Says:
Nov 24, 2009 - Note the bit starting at 2 minutes and 10 seconds in. The subtitles go "where are the black people?" and then the next scene displayed is the ape swingdance scene from Jungle Book, which is given the subtitle "here they are!" I think danubata24 is the real racist here.

ScottyGuy00 Says:
Nov 22, 2009 - Yeah it's sad to say during those times, the period in time when those cartoons and clips in this were produced, there were still alot of things which needa work in society. Start from the 90s and work till now and your only find political things and perverted things in the disney movies, not racist things. Was the crows name in dumbo really jim crow? i cant remember which is why im asking
