Nov 12, 2009 - John Entwhistle faster and better than Alvin Lee? Bass player versus Lead player ,how/why do you get into that one? I listen to both those players for over 20 yrs , never felt the need to compare those 2. Alvin's 'level' /technique/whatever of playing pentatonic was way ahead in speed technique of Clapton , Hendrix, Page, Beck at that same time.

SmithRuel Says:

Nov 12, 2009 - I think they were comparing the speed of Leo and John, not Alvin and John.

lou7129 Says:

Nov 13, 2009 - i was talking about leo lyons. please look at the comment, i was replying to. but back to alvin lee. he may be faster than clapton and hendrix, but he was never be able to put so much heart and feelings into his musik. musik is not only technik and for sure not speedness.

alvin01 Says:

Nov 13, 2009 - Ok ,I understand about the Enwhistle confusion. That is a 'cliche' Alvin having only speed not as much feeling as Clapton/Hendrix.I would respectfully disagree. Alvin is not a LESS feeling guitarist. Some people think blues is about feeling more so than other stlyes of music, then Jazz has no feeling? Alvin plays Slow blues with aunthenticity then rips up the fretboard with ferocity half way thru. He has alot of versatility with Blues, Swing Jazz, RR. It's ALL feeling one way or another.

Nov 15, 2009 - I agree with user 173. For me, this was the highlight of Woodstock. It doesn't get any better than this. This, together with Crossroads by Cream, are the two definitive live guitar performances.

BluesShredGuru Says:

Nov 19, 2009 - He says "I'm Going Home, by helicopter" Is he making a reference to the traffic in and out of Woodstock, and only being able to come or leave by means of a helecopter, or an actual band that did this song?

ManilaSyndicate Says:

Nov 20, 2009 - One of the better performances of the epoch-defining event. Always been amused the way Alvin pursed his lips upward with his eyes closed, he looked like an upset granny.

bronenalladin Says:

Nov 20, 2009 - Joe Gooch might not be an exact replica of Alvin Lee but i'd say he does a pretty good job!

ccfliege Says:

Nov 21, 2009 - man that guy is so cool

milebest1 Says:

Nov 21, 2009 - alvin lee is by far THE number one, far far ahead.............. the rest are there to try to compete with him. i'd say marathon is one damn weird thing

fenderstrat6485 Says:

Nov 21, 2009 - yeah, he went home by helicopter. the original song was just "im going home", but he changed it at woodstock 69 for the heck of it i guess
