Sep 11, 2009 - The whole time I was thinking of the old Tom Leher song: You too may be a big hero, Once you've learned to count backwards to zero. "In German oder English I know how to count down, Und I'm learning Chinese," says Wernher von Braun.

Sep 11, 2009 - wow, even they're space program has the annoying, whiny, stereotypical Asian girl voice.

Sep 11, 2009 - Makes you also realise how very good and really enjoyable the Nasa coverage of events is. And that is certainly a very important reason why so many people have become interested in what Nasa is doing.( Started for me with the first moonlanding)

Sep 11, 2009 - Can anybody explain to me why the Japanese countdown fits the video footage while the English one is ahead by 5 seconds? Also it seems to me as if the Japanese coundown omits the hundreds. I found it irritating to hear 二十四 (24) while the English commenter said that there are 2 minutes left. Anyway: 万歳!万歳!万歳! (^_^;;)
exryokawa Says:
Sep 11, 2009 - I think Japanese count down ends at the point of the lift off, while the English count down ends at the ignition of the main engines. And the reason why she omitted the hundreds is simply it is too long to say all the digits. This is not usual way of counting in Japanese.

Sep 11, 2009 - The English countdown stops at booster ignition. Main engines are fired at T-6,5 seconds. =)

Sep 11, 2009 - think it's the delay in the video and sound feed between japan and Nasa JSC where the narrator was based.

Oct 2, 2009 - That's great. Those boosters look a lot thicker and sturdier than usual. Looks like they carried the space ship clear of the ground well.
