We no longer have independent states and we are no longer free, I can't even do what I want with my property. "That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government"-This needs to be done now.

Jul 5, 2009 - America's independence was actually declared by the Continental Congress on July 2, 1776. The night of July 2nd, the Pennsylvania Evening Post published the statement: "This day the Continental Congress declared the United Colonies Free and Independent States." The Declaration of Independence was signed on the August 2, 1776 and "released" in January 1777. We celebrate the 4th due to a misinterpretation of a letter written by Thomas Jefferson.

Jul 6, 2009 - Yes Congress declared it on July 2nd but we did not sign the DOI untill July 4th which is why its celebrated on the 4th because it wasent officiall untill we signed the DOI

Jul 7, 2009 - NO, as I stated above the DOI was SIGNED August 2, 1776. We celebrate on the fourth because of a simple human error and misunderstanding.

Jul 9, 2009 - Ok we are actually both correct it was signed on July 4th by one man named John Hancock. 52 others dident sign it untill Aug 2 then in 1781 or so three other men signed it and i am srry for my misunderstanding but it was technically offical JULY 4th 1776 and thats because someone signed it. so yes July 4th is independence day and it was declared as soon as Hancock signed it
