Mar 14, 2009 - Copyrights are outdated. This is a MUCH MORE versatile market. It is much freer. Why don't we encourage MORE free-market media and participation by empowering the little guy? I mean, it's silly that things like recording a video on TV on some channel and selling it is illegal ($250,000 or 5 years in jail)! So what if the company loses a few dollars because an individual sells some copies! Why does it have to be all about money? What about FREEDOM?

whoo689 Says:

Mar 14, 2009 - The old economists' fear that, without copyrights and patents, innovators and artists won't be able to sell their products and make enough money, and just anyone will be able to rip them off, is largely a myth nowadays. This is the 2st Century! We're much more high-tech and flexible as a society. We have the Internet. We have much more ways to get rich than 1776 or 1789. Copyright and patent laws have to seriously be updated. The DMCA should be repealed. It's a travesty.

whoo689 Says:

Mar 14, 2009 - If we want to truly be competitive, we need to make the market more open and free. If that means relaxing "intellectual property rights", so be it. If you decide to release something out onto the market, I should be able to use that and other material to make MY OWN intellectual property. After all, is that not less legitimate as an art form than something completely original? It's MY expression. Creativity should be shared by society, not limited by some selfish person who only wants money

whoo689 Says:

Mar 14, 2009 - Extreme copyright regulations are little more than a subtle form of protectionism for the bigwigs who dominate media in this country. You may think it's just "protecting intellectual property" or "preventing someone from being ripped off" and not making a profit, but it's really little more than people going to the government and whining because they don't want to have to compete in an open market when they release their material. They want competition to be closed, in a sense. Pansies

McArrowni Says:

Mar 14, 2009 - They know that as soon as people and artists can reach each other directly, their place as a middle man is gone, and so are they.

L8nitedave Says:

Mar 15, 2009 - You should watch more of Mr Lessig's vids. Copy rights were intended to protect the value on behalf of the creator. It is actually a part of the constitution that there be reasonable limits on them to encourage intelectual evolution. Then a man named Walt Disney passed away and a corporation began fighting over fortunes. Very interesting stuff.

Ovidius777 Says:

Mar 15, 2009 - This is just outrageous and it is killing creativity. Complete freedom of information sharing is necessary for our evolution as humanity

CiphersSon Says:

Mar 15, 2009 - finally this issue is gaining ground. copyright laws are a farce.

QuirkyAndSuch Says:

Mar 16, 2009 - What incentive do people have to create when they are too busy working in non-creative jobs for a living? That's what happens when you get rid of copyright laws, you allow art to become something anyone can take from anyone; suddenly artistic types can't make a living creating art and instead have to work in jobs that do allow them to make money. Some copyrighting is needed to help ensure that people can live off of art if they are talented enough to create art and build a following.

QuirkyAndSuch Says:

Mar 16, 2009 - You can still compete if you do it with originality. Nothing is stopping any of these people from creating something original and putting it out there to compete with other artists. The reality is that most people like to copy because it's easy ... but it also requires little talent, which is why it's not worth as much. Why should a true artist have to compete against their own creation that has been slightly altered?

Mar 17, 2009 - I thought he was going to make fun of the kids for their efforts in the music videos, but he actually made a really good point. Its not hard to prove that there is a lot of crap on youtube, lol

OneLittleTuber Says:

Mar 21, 2009 - COPYRIGHT INFRINGER ME I am human. I am technically a "cover" version of an original work. I believe God to be the original creator of humans. I have attempted to contact God and obtain the nessessary license(s) needed to be legally alive under the terms of federal law with no success. I may have my life deleted due to copyright infringement that contains third-party content. by: Criss Crass (this statement is actually legally copyrighted as a "poem" by Criss Crass.LOL)

neillpaddy Says:

Mar 21, 2009 - 1-Copy and Paste this message to 8 other videos 2-Go to your channel and look at you background

judemoir Says:

Mar 23, 2009 - I suppose the point is not to completely eradicate copyright laws. Lessig makes it clear that he wants a balance, between artists getting reward for their innovation, and the public being able to use that. He does not support people making money from copying DVDs for example, but he thinks that stopping people from building on culture is detrimental and only benefits the few fat cats that get all the money!

handgrenadepin Says:

Mar 24, 2009 - yup. draw the line and consider the context. a printed novel is one thing, music is another. ^^

thechoice33 Says:

Apr 5, 2009 - Very good points, copyright is stupid!

janetteemccrary Says:

Apr 25, 2009 - Another point he should have touched on is the great number of MEMORIAL videos that use music. Music that was played at funerals. Music that was the deceased's favorite. Music that maybe they sang or performed to, on video, in choir or dance... That we cannot share in a memorial video because of copyright. How awful is it to tell the widow, friend, or relative of someone who has just died... to take their stolen crap off the internet? All my memorial videos but one or two have been taken.

WMGKilledIt Says:

May 12, 2009 - This is a Great Video! If this all keeps up, we won't even be able to hum a tune anymore! I haven't played a CD of mine in over a year! I am so bitter over WMG and UMG's Greed!

BluePounder Says:

May 12, 2009 - Prince is such a jerk I wouldn't be surprised if this video got pulled just because of the clip showing the baby dancing to a Prince song. Prince is one of the worst when it comes to copyright.

George21T Says:

Jun 12, 2009 - WMG all corporations needs to ban copyright law. i mean youtube says broadcast our self in huge letters not take away out rights.

Jun 15, 2009 - All comes down to GREED,GREED,GREED.

HotHeadVegeta Says:

Jul 10, 2009 - Ya know what, tommorrow I'm going to make a video post and it is GOING TO TELL WMG THAT "their" copyrighting stuff is Crap and that I am SICK OF IT!!!!!!!!!! F*** THEM

yojunkzfaded Says:

Jul 11, 2009 - once again, i agree with some points but think about the good that comes out of copyright such as young up and coming artists can save there work as their own and no one else can use it, or buy owning it they have te right to sell it to another individual. yes some individuals are overwelmed with greed to the point were they would sue for something as retarded as that. But america is based off over indulgance so we might as well get use to it. it's only gunna get worse if we dont take a stand

thewriterfanlJesus Says:

Nov 5, 2009 - It's sad so many people don't even know about it. I used to be a ghost writer and I know more than most of the artists I ghost wrote for. But they keep harassing me as a customer, general citzen, and as a writer, even trying to have me blackballed. When they did the abuse 3/4 of the time or had their local friends harass me and fans.
