Aug 9, 2009 - The climate of Cyprus is unique, there are 2-3 years of rainfall (2002-4 when all dams flooded) and then 4-5 years of drought. what happens inbetween with the water management is important. 5 years under Tassos Papadopoulos = no water. In the winter of 2009 it rained enough to cover the country's needs for 2 more years. Hopefully it will rain even more this winter and the desalination plants will be finished by 2011. Otherwise we need to reverse immigration reduce dependency on tourism.

Aug 21, 2009 - water shortage is going to be the next war. it is already started, everyone noticed the change in weather this summer, but not having rain for 4 years in a small island like that, it is like a desert weather, so hot, no water, only salt sea water Why cant they build a refiner from sea water to clear water.

Not sure if we can obtain clear water from sea one, but remember the vid from tv-news, they made it SNOW in China in February09, surely international help should apply? Remember the wells in Africa (with Unicef?) when we were kids... there's got to be some solution... hopefully.
