Sep 29, 2009 - i use line 6 podxt with ibanez rg w/ emg pickups
MembershipSchool Says:
Sep 29, 2009 - use your picking hand which for most people is the right hand. lay the right side of your hand on the strings close to the bridge.
JDawg983 Says:
Sep 30, 2009 - one thing i don't understand still is: when a song is alternating between palm muting on the 6th string and regular notes lower, do you want to find a way to mute only that string or do you want to mute then raise?
wkriski Says:
Sep 30, 2009 - mute the 6th then raise your hand to play other strings without muting. i'm able to mute the 6th only without lifting my hand but i usually lift it

Nov 7, 2009 - Question for you: When I am doing note progressions across several strings with heavy distortion on, the sound really gets muddy because all the notes are ringing out at the same time. Would palm muting after playing every note be a way to stop that from happening? Or would you just naturally lift your fretting finger and deaden the string that way?
wkriski Says:
Nov 7, 2009 - yeah mostly with palm muting...you can lift your left finger off the fretboard but still touching the string as well, and also the tip of your finger on one string can touch another string above it, and the curl of your fingers (palm side) can also mute the lower strings. so there's different ways to mute the strings. with lots of distortion palm muting is the best way.

Nov 14, 2009 - The riff at 4:31 kinda reminded me of some Iced Earth stuff. Cool lesson BTW. I wish I saw this back when I was learning. I had to figure this shit out on my own. But it's all good.

Sep 28, 2009 - Very true, EnterJustice, I think people should learn to play in E standard before tuning down to drop C and learning other types of stuff
