Sep 4, 2009 - I was already thinking that parts of this song remind me of 'The Green Green Grass Of Home' before the talking bit. Then more so.

Sep 9, 2009 - I don't think I'll ever get the whole cowboy thing. I mean really...DIE for a horse? Is that supposed to be noble or something? But, I love ya', Jim. Thanks, Katydids!

Oct 3, 2009 - CaninAble, find it hard to understand why you cant get giving your life for something you love dearly? Its not a cowboy thing as such, we have a horse and would do the same. Who is to judge wot life is more important than the other? Love is a personal thing!

Oct 15, 2009 - Jim was a tallent that no one has ever been able to imitate. He left a void in our music culture. I listened to him all through school, and cried when he died in 1964. Much of his music can still bring a tear. I look forward to seeing him again on the other side.

Oct 27, 2009 - Dan was also the name of the horse in "cool water." must have been a popular name for a horse "back then."

Aug 9, 2009 - As a young boy, I recall this song at my Grandma's house. I play this on acoustic guitar and it's beautiful. This is what a song is supposed to do. Tell a story, paint a picture in your mind, evoke emotion, comedy and tragedy, it's all there. The comedy being (for those of you who missed it or didn't get it) "Dan get up you ornery cuss" . You see, he loved that horse and he knew that they were going to die if they didn't get shelter, so this was a term of endearment, not an insult.
