Nov 19, 2009 - I can see how thats possible, and you underestimate REM
Chunganator Says:
Nov 19, 2009 - Thom Yorke is believed to be the most influenced by Pink Floyd actually. And growing up, when he got his guitar, he was influenced by Brian May of Queen.
saffyminty Says:
Nov 20, 2009 - Yes, you underestimate REM and also, do some research - Thom Yorke and Michael Stipe have long since had a mutual admiration society going on and have even performed together.

Nov 21, 2009 - shit man, now i want one of those badass camera hats.
altjk01 Says:
Nov 21, 2009 - not true. beatles went from playing a few chorded poppy crap songs to starting the psychedelic revolution in the 60's within a couple of years. thats progression. radiohead has been on the scene for more than 15 years. beatles had about 6 or 7 years only and they accomplished a countless number of things. I wouldn't put radiohead above beatles as a band. They were better instrumentally I agree, but the beatles were more experimental for their time. listen to tomorrow never knows made in 66'
toorn2 Says:
Nov 22, 2009 - yeah, and rock was a young baby that was developing fast... now, rock is a mature woman with lots of kids with almost perfect self esteem and looks, so it's hard to progress something that is almost fully developed. Off course there will be more progression but not so fast as they were back in 60's.
timages13 Says:
Nov 23, 2009 - Very true, Tomorrow Never knows for 66' is astounding, as their other songs especially by John Lennon. Yet a good part of the Beatles musicality can be directly attributed to their producer George Martin. He virtually created huge sections of their most ground breaking albums. Not so with Radiohead, they're truly extraordinary in the range of their music and their time together, and not just playing the same covers like the Stones or other old bands. At this point they may have passed everyone.
altjk01 Says:
Nov 23, 2009 - @timages13 yes yes i know, that's why I put down radiohead is better instrumentally- because George Martin came up with a lot of the orchestration. The Beatles were definitely experimental though, and for the user before to say there was no progression through the beatles is crazy
timages13 Says:
Nov 23, 2009 - You're right, the Beatles were front and center to one of the greatest movements in Popular culture, the late 60s .After years of making 3 minute pop songs they made Revolver and that changed everything. But they only had a few great albums, the White Album, (and only parts of it), was their last. Whereas Radiohead is something else entirely. Fifteen years together and they're still breaking new ground. There's really no band to compare to them in my opinion. ...the greatest? ...who can say.
mikec222 Says:
Nov 24, 2009 - err.. Abbey Road is incredible, while being less ground breaking Rubber Soul is pretty awesome too.
mikec222 Says:
Nov 24, 2009 - why are these called thumbs down version?
timages13 Says:
Nov 24, 2009 - Abbey Road was recorded before the White Album but released after and so I included that; and you're right Rubber Soul does have some nice music on it. But we were talking about the great albums in their progressive period, practically all their earlier albums have some very nice songs. They're a great and important band, and the same can be said for Radiohead.
KoiChannel Says:
Nov 24, 2009 - Hi, we are a new band called Koi, we have a new album coming soon and want to inform fellow Radiohead fans, if you're curious, search for "Koi-In Tomorrow Hid Yesterday" and five full-length tracks will appear, five totally different sides of us. Hope you don't mind a struggling small band trying to spread their word! :) Anyway, check it out, you might like it! Rock on! //Patrik
The5thBeatle92 Says:
Nov 24, 2009 - no, you're not right. White Album was recorded after Beatles' trip to India in 1968. Abbey Road was recorded in 1969 after some parts of Let it Be album and released before Let it Be.
babibtul Says:
Nov 24, 2009 - u cannot compare the beatles and radiohead. Huh! the beatles is the GURU ! all above all the rock band. they are the pioneer off all mother music. from rolling stones down to radiohead _ oasis
timages13 Says:
Nov 24, 2009 - I'm not exactly sure where but I read that Abbey Road was released during the recording stages of one of their other albums. I was sure it said White Album... Anyway, this is a place for the music of Radiohead, and I'd rather turn my attention to listening and commenting on their fine music. The Beatles were more than 40 years ago, they had their time, and in retrospect some of their music is not at all great. A good deal of it can be mawkishly intolerable, those Paul McCartney songs especially.
LouReedsBooks Says:
Nov 24, 2009 - This is the version actually released onto In Rainbows, I think the Scotch Mist version is for the movie they made.
altjk01 Says:
Nov 24, 2009 - you're mixing up your albums, abbey road was for sure recorded after the white album. i've always thought all beatles albums were great minus the first rise to fame few and maybe let it be. and yes the beatles did have some off songs. Its always amazed me how some believed mccartney was a greater songwriter than lennon.
timages13 Says:
Nov 24, 2009 - Incredible, there's no question McCartney wrote THE most embarrassing Beatle songs: O blah Di O blah da?, (what was the follow to that going to be, Blah Blah Blah blah), and Maxwell's Silver Hammer to name a few. John Lennon was the pained genius for sure, and his songs especially from the Pepper album are still haunting and beautiful. Strawberry Fields, Lucy in the Sky, Day in the Life, Benefit of Mr. Kite. All in their own way forerunners to the music of this band Radiohead.
WattheFuckreally Says:
Nov 25, 2009 - while recreating SOUND, radiohead continue to divide and conquer ALL before
pokegundam767 Says:
Nov 25, 2009 - McCartney wrote some great songs also like shes leaving home hey jude let it be just to name a few there not embarrising songs just not amazing songs. and i like maxwells silver hammer and ob la di ob la da
timages13 Says:
Nov 25, 2009 - McCartney wrote mostly sappy pop songs,(he wrote a song entitled, Silly Love Songs...enough said). He also once stated that his goal was to write for Sinatra, (that should give you an idea of where his head was at). You wrote that his songs are great but not amazing, that's using the English language in a way I'm not entirely familiar with. But it's of no matter, if you enjoy his music then go right on listening...cheers!

Nov 25, 2009 - Album of the decade, maybe

poonist Says:
Nov 19, 2009 - Hard to believe that they were influenced by REM who are a very average, middle of the road, formulaic band. Radiohead's compositions are brilliant, edgy and original. REM is verse, chorus, verse, chorus yada yada
