Jun 25, 2009 - The Scots (Scotii) arrived on the island now known as Ireland centuries before either the Gael or the Erse(Irish). The island took their name but later changed to Ireland. The gael arrived in what is now Scotland from County Down.

Jul 10, 2009 - yeh yeh and they were named after pharoes daughter... but your forgetting the picts and the caledonians... but as your so knowlegdable .. who were the people that built the stones
Daddymccourt Says:
Jul 11, 2009 - Yes, your first statement is Correct but no, I did not forget - they were both the same people, Pict being just the Roman name for the Caledonians. It can be translated as painted savages - which they were. It was the Scots that civilised them. What Stones? Tell me and I may be able to help you with that also. Dunoon certainly needs to be converted to God, see what you can do for them.
God4Dunoon Says:
Jul 11, 2009 - hahaha your obviously NOT Scottish. OK 1. Picts are separate tribal group from Scots and Caledonians Most colonisers (Romans, historical and present day Anglo Saxons, evangelicals, etc) do refer to Native Populations as barbarians, savages, and are in need of 'civilising'. But this is not how the Geal assumed power. However Wade did a pretty good job of that with the Geal. 2. The Stones mmh there was a population here before the Scotti arrived, and their DNA still exists within the popn
God4Dunoon Says:
Jul 11, 2009 - There is a very good section called The Tribes of Ancient Scotland in a site called Roman Scotland
Daddymccourt Says:
Jul 11, 2009 - Part 1. Fact The Caledonians were those referred to by Romans as Picts - not separate groups. I do not wish to get involved in further argument so I can only refer you away from myth and hearsay and recommend you go to reliable sources such as Pinkerton "That the Caledonians and Picts were one and the same people is now universally allowed."—Pinkerton, i., 105, Continued in part 2.
Daddymccourt Says:
Jul 11, 2009 - Part 2. "Tantum scuto angusto lanceaque contenti, proeterea gladio nudis corporibus dependente." Herodian Lib. iii. 268. etc. No one claims that the Scotii built any "stones" or were there before the Picts. Incidentally I AM Scots as have been all generations of my family for at least 500 years I live quite close to you and know Dunoon well. End of discussion.
God4Dunoon Says:
Jul 11, 2009 - haha fine if your going to reference books that were published under the reign of Q. Victoria. I would refer you to modern historians. I dont find Wade in any book on mythology But if you wish to keep your romaniticed version of Scotland. so be it end of discussion
