Aug 7, 2009 - If you liked this film, and haven't already found it, you might like the Brainline website (from WETA public broadcasting in Washington DC area). It's "Brainline" and ".org". Look at their section titled Personal Stories -- you'll find links to this film and a whole lot of others. Also great updates on research and news about brain injury. Tell Victoria, the editor, I sent you. :-) Anita

Aug 9, 2009 - If she is on nourotin (sp) or similar med for nerve damage, get her weaned off of it as soon as possible, (it took me 6 months) it causes very strange stuff to happen in the mind, I was in denile about TBI too, it took 3 years until I understood that I had TBI at that time healing got faster (see I can type do stuff), stress will keep her from healing, vitamins help green algie help rebuild brain cells, a complete stranger who noticed I had TBI recommended it, it worked for her daughter.

Aug 9, 2009 - The last thing you want to do is to start labeling a TBI before they have fuller recovery, or treating worse than what they are dealing with already, support and a safe and secure enviroment and not being doped up on pharmaceuticals is the fastest way to recovery
truemirror Says:
Aug 9, 2009 - I am agreeing with pepper, 3 years is the same time it took me before I had the biggest healing, but it will never be the same, yet, please let her know that healing (rerouting) will happen and every few months she can see an improvement, please don't get her labeled as scitzo before she has had a chance to heal, this takes years, you are very kind to stand beside her. Now I blow up about 1time a year but only under stress and Ptss does happen.

Aug 9, 2009 - I'm sorry to hear about yours hers struggle, I wasn't so bad, she has to do things like move what ever she can over and over to relearn like a baby does when you lay them on their belly, 10 years now I still have lose of control where I'll kick or my arm flys out, or dropping things falling, she may not get much more back or she may, it seems that three years is when healing really kicks off. good nutrition is extremely important NO stress, yet motivation is very important.

Aug 9, 2009 - chlorophyll is what gave me a kick, that and large amounts of vitamins, it was recommended by a stranger whose daughter had TBI worst than I, she had seen me walk said I walked just like her daughter it is the only thing that i know that help regrow brain cells, other than ingested cannabis, but I didn't try that (I didn't know about it). than it's just a matter of rerouting and the brain will do that when it is ready, 10 yers and still healing.

Sep 6, 2009 - We are caring for our son who sustained a severe T.B.I. in 7/06. We are using natural therapies to help him heal. Vitamins, herbs, etc. We recently had 20 HBOT sessions(need more, but SO expensive) It's good to read that helping him recover here at home is the best(been wondering if we were holding him back) We do not keep him doped up. Going to look into the green algae..see what that's about. God bless all of you who are living with or caring for a T.B.I. survivor!! Peace ;-)

Sep 7, 2009 - My wife suffered a TBI accident in2001. For weeks, she lay unresponsive in a coma. Then 1 day she awoke and I was so happy and excited that she 'came back.' Over the course of that 1st year it was quite clear she wasn't the same person. We had the best medical treatment and rehab available at the time but she plateau'd probably during her 2nd year. With a lot of trial and error RX's, we finally discovered Zyprexa and that has been a miracle drug for her mood disorders. Now, I just take...
camomule Says:
Sep 7, 2009 - care of her every day, keep her happy and comfortable and absolutely enjoy each moment we share together--and that is 24/7! She no longer does any therapy, other than what we do here at home. i.e., last night, we did the 'feed the world' vocabulary test and she was awesome through level 2 (out of 60). We pushed on and I challenge her like that a lot. Our days of looking for 'getting better' are over now. We're very happy together and I love her and am committed to her forever. Bless U All!

Oct 2, 2009 - My brother had a brain injury 6 months ago. He spent about a week unconscious. Doctors say he is already 50% back to normal. He's lucky he was just 18. He spent his 19th birthday on the neurology ward. Now he's back in college, retaking his first year. n_n

Aug 7, 2009 - One of the saddest things about becoming disabled, at age 49, was finding out how many supposedly normal people will try to take advantage of vulnerable people--including those with disabilities such as brain injury--because they think they can get away with it. Once when I challenged someone being paid to help me, and trying to take advantage, what if I complain? - he said "I'll just say since you hit your head, you get confused and make things up."
