Oct 15, 2009 - Yeah I know some pretty dumb humans as well but you don't throw the baby out with the bath water. Maybe the reason they are dumb to begin with is nobody wants to help them learn. We should teach them and educate them instead of wanting to get rid of them. I know that sounded liberal as hell but oh well.

Oct 16, 2009 - I must say that all this future music is all a tad too optimistic considering what problems this century is facing. Maybe the 22nd century human will enjoy all these breakthroughs indeed. The video also left out geo-engineering. Maybe for a next episode?

Oct 18, 2009 - None of this will happen. The religious will blow up the world long before then and the greedy will sap the life from their 9-5 slaves so that it all collapses first. The bridge to all of this is not currently sustainable the way we are going. Interesting to think about tho.
AncientAtheist Says:
Oct 19, 2009 - Great stuff, though I share at least some of the pessimism of the previous comment. There is so much we *could* conceivably do if dogma doesn't get in the way. I'm really looking forward to the discoveries made from the LHC experiments. It could change everything quickly enough to short-circuit the destructive potential of religion.

Oct 26, 2009 - What humans can do, AI can do much faster (if it ever becomes possible). AI can also be programmed/limited in what it can do. I think I understand your concerns, especially considering the kind of humans we have here, and what they would do with this kind of technology if they ever got hold of it.
bdf2718 Says:
Oct 26, 2009 - We need space. And the only sensible route to space is a space elevator. The problem is that humanity is far too childish to be trusted with one. One of the groups of believers in an invisible sky daddy will sabotage it. The results of the cable falling to earth would be catastrophic. If we ever grow up, a space elevator is a possibility. Until then it's a disaster waiting to happen.
bdf2718 Says:
Oct 26, 2009 - Medical nanites are a really bad idea unless they're created by the equivalent of stem cells external to the body. The smallest self-replicating cell evolution can come up with is a bacterium. The smallest replicating object that co-opts human cells is the virus. Both evolve because they don't have sufficient error detection in replication. Extra error detection means bigger. Probably too big to be of any use.
