Jul 15, 2009 - "Even if populations increase to 50 mln by 2030, most of those people will probably be immigrants unable to afford the expensive tickets the train will require to make any money" Well, those immigrants can afford to fly anywhere today, how is the train going to be more expensive than a train?? Kerosene/Jet fuel is and WILL BE way more expensive in the future for obvious reasons. Why would renewable electricity be more expensive then that? Isn't Flying supposed to be the luxury not the train?

Jul 16, 2009 - You can scratch California off the list. It's not going to happen due to Bankruptcy or lack of Bond money. Because CA didn't pass a proper budget, our state Credit Rating will be lowered to Junk-Bond status...i.e. NO way of ever funding this project! The good news is we'll STILL find a way to pay for welfare, section-8 housing, food stamps, child care, college aid, pre-K to 12 schooling, breakfast-lunch programs, prison housing, etc. etc. etc. for the 16+ MILLION ILLEGAL aliens in our state.
aaaaaaandweregone Says:
Jul 16, 2009 - Try again. Just because we passed Prop. 1A does't mean this project will happen. All that did was give California the go-ahead to SEEK 9.95 Billion dollars to start this project in the form of bonds. The over-all cost is predicted to be (in today's dollars) just under $50 Billion! So, even if we could sell the bonds (which will be Junk-bonds by the way), it would fund just 20%. Even that is unlikely because the value of U.S. money is falling fast due to Obama's $10,000,000,000,000 TARP debt.

Jul 18, 2009 - That's true assuming fuel prices stay down, which they inevitably won't. That and riding HSR is far more comfortable than air travel. If you figure all of the travel time to get from the airport to where you're actually headed, check-in, delays, security, etc., HSR is faster for short/medium distance trips and tends to deliver you close to where you want to be, not 30 miles away.

Jul 22, 2009 - High speed rail + earthquake = lulz
yangj08 Says:
Jul 30, 2009 - I feel your sarcasm, but read up on the Shinkansen. It's only derailed once in an earthquake and everyone came out unhurt. Try again. On the other hand, if California goes TGV or ICE then bad things happen.
kaikovich Says:
Aug 1, 2009 - if united states wasnt in iraq war they could have built high speed trains all over the country, and lots more things. Stop invading countries and you will make it
xjabi Says:
Aug 8, 2009 - there's been no Fatalities on the TGV nor ICE Why would there be in America if there isn't in France nor Germany?
yangj08 Says:
Aug 9, 2009 - Because neither France nor Germany have as many earthquakes as California does (this project is specific to the state of California; for projects elsewhere there are other Youtube videos to comment on it for). America can't afford to have anything like the Eschede incident; that would be the end of HSR in America. For California I'd feel safest using technology from a country that has been through much of what California has.

Aug 12, 2009 - It shows the acela express as a high speed line in 2:02
poseidoncambria Says:
Aug 20, 2009 - Well, that's not completely true. The ICE had one accident in shich people died. But only one HSR accident compared to how many plane crashes??? Personally, I think the AGV would be the way to go.

Aug 24, 2009 - 357 mph? i want one of those babies
trashdunka99 Says:
Aug 30, 2009 - CA seriously needs to consider a modified version of the n700 like they use in china.
gibb1991 Says:
Aug 30, 2009 - On the contrary, in 1995, a Duetsche Bundesbahn ICE 1 train derailed traveling at 125 mph carrying over 300 passengers. All of these passengers would have survived if the train had not struck at road bridge support and caused the bridge to fall onto the train. 101 were killed. But that is the only fatalities on the ICE. Regardless, there has never been fatalities on the TGV, Shinkansen, Acela Express, Eurostar, or any other high speed train service. High Speed rail has proven to be safest.
sideslide23 Says:
Sep 4, 2009 - yea but the TGV travels under the Ocean from London to Paris so how big is their network do you think?
sideslide23 Says:
Sep 4, 2009 - then C.A. would have to widen the high way system, expand the airport and runways, and have to rely on foreign oil and that double the cost of High Speed Rail. by 2030, California will be over crouded so they would have to put boarder fence around the state and not allow any one coming in to C.A. so California has no choice so CAHSR is a Win.
michaeliraq Says:
Sep 11, 2009 - Have u ever heard of the ICE Eschede train disaster?
sideslide23 Says:
Sep 18, 2009 - yes I did, it crash head on witht he other train going to epcot center in Walt Disney World on July 5Th of this year.
gibb1991 Says:
Sep 21, 2009 - Yes, but that was an occurrance that never repeated itself. It was 14 years ago, positive train control has been developed since then, and will be established on all lines in the U.S. by 2015. Most of the passengers on board survived that crash, thousands more have been killed in plane crashes than train crashes. Trains are very safe, rest assured.
trainmaster500 Says:
Sep 26, 2009 - have you heard of all the air disasters this year alone - Air france airplane goes missing en route from brazil to France. Two Accidents involving Continental Airlines, the Other American crash in the new york harbor???? One HSR crash in the last 10 years compared with about 5-6 plane crashes this year alone...
motive440 Says:
Oct 20, 2009 - How pathetic that the US images were only animations. The US has already lost the race. Long ago.
sonofthedestroyer Says:
Nov 21, 2009 - Too much speed on trains is no fun. Not for train enthusiasts. Better for snobbish business men. There is a limit to development. If it keeps going unchecked, the world will end up like the Matrix movie where the real world is a place covered in metal and robots
jjreyesnavelgas Says:
Nov 24, 2009 - the acela express sucks balls... the US needs sumthing like the shinkansen or the tgv
