Aug 22, 2009 - The movie may be an excellent example of the Uncanny Valley.

mechanova Says:

Sep 6, 2009 - I didn't know that about this valley and I'm pretty sure I'd be hard pressed to find someone who know about it.

Sep 29, 2009 - I wonder if the Uncanny Valley phenomenom comes from our past run-ins with the Neanderthal's.

snarkwaupaca Says:

Oct 1, 2009 - More likely we learned to stay away from people who would not provide a strong gene pool. More crudely stated, Mother nature wants us to not breed with retards.

Ragedhard Says:

Oct 4, 2009 - BORDERLANDS!

labbu236 Says:

Oct 4, 2009 - Isn't that mori guy the one that made a complete robot clone of himself? I mean, because of the picture at the beginning.

kirithem Says:

Oct 4, 2009 - Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the guy.

acquimat Says:

Oct 13, 2009 - Yes and no: the one shown made a robot clone of himself, but it's not Mori. It's Hiroshi Ishiguro. Masahiro Mori published the theory of the "Uncanny Valley" in 1970

Oct 29, 2009 - but the armor of MC is (from a lore perspective) designed to give him all the normal movement, even enchance it. MCs armor isn't suposed to be bulky or hinder his movement in any way, the opposite actualy

Maximara Says:

Oct 30, 2009 - But the uncanny valley is based on EXPERIENCE not lore. Also as the Game overthinker pointed out making a game realistic has OTHER problems--the more real it looks the more the unreal aspects (like how your flamethrower cannot burn down a wooden door or your rocket launcher doesn't effect it either) become more obvious.

ManateeCircus Says:

Nov 5, 2009 - no it's way earlier than that the same applies to macaque monkeys

baycrum267 Says:

Nov 8, 2009 - WHY does every uncanny valley video use wall-e?What about Johnny-5 he was A REAL robot and talked more than wall-e and that gives him more charm than him.WALL-E only says 2: Eva and Wall-e

grafight Says:

Nov 19, 2009 - Part of the problem with uncanny valley is design. It's not necessarily a matter of lack of technology to make robots or CGI objecs human enough, but to compensate for the differences with good design. For example an amateur portrait artist often create uncanny faces. The pro knows how to compensate for that. CGI designers need to enlist the help of traditional artists who know what visual compensations are needed to overcome the valley.

bagofchipz Says:

Nov 19, 2009 - Surprised TF2 didn't come up in the stylized section.
