My point is STP along w/ many other bands had little to no chance at getting a major label deal until Nirvana and the other major signings made the music marketable to the point that labels were signing the "Maybe"bands..You say a couple of years maybe. Thats an eturnity..Pearl Jam was a band for about 2 months before they had there major contract.. STP was a band for a couple of years w/ no play...until Nirvana opened the gates

Nov 18, 2009 - I get what you're saying. And most of it I agree with. I just don't think Nirvana was as great as everyone thinks. Most people praise a dead guy. Look at Michael Jackson. Personally, I think people were into Nirvana because Kurt Kobain was dead like four years after they became a sensation. I feel like if he didn't kick the bucket himself, most people would feel different about them.

Nov 19, 2009 - Yeah nirvana did open the gates for ALOT of bands being labeled as grunge Mudhoney, The Melvins, Tad, Love Battery and all those bands. those are some grunge bands i can think of at the top of my head anyway all are good bands i like them but they wouldnt be anything without nirvana or at least as big as they got.. that being said there was other genres in music not just grunge in the 90s so nirvana didnt exactly open the gates for metal, alternative (maybe a little anyway), pop, and punk.
