He wanted to get the hook out and if I were him and have dealt with larger ones, I would have done the same thing. He knew what it was capable of. he just wanted to get the hook out. They also had the prying instrument inside of it's jaws. Keeping it's mouth open. If anything it was the other guys fault for letting it close it's mouth.

Oct 29, 2009 - When I was about 12 years old some friends and I went down to the river by my house to go fishing, not realizing the area we picked was teeming with these things. The first one I caught bit the crap out of my hand and probably would have done worse had my friend not kicked it in the head. These things are ferocious. We ended up loosing two poles to some full grown gar before we gave up and went home.
