Nov 24, 2009 - Well essentially they took rap and crossed it with RnB (Not rhythm n blues but that shit they call R n B nowadays) because rap was too "raw for commercial tastes." Ending up with the whole rapping over pop verse, sung vox in chorus thing. Rap was an underground movement in which people expressed their own opinions, hip hop is the exact opposite.
