PRESS RELEASE (11/10/2008) LAOS NATIONAL RAILWAY PROJECT SAVANNAKHET TO LAO BAO SIGNING OF MOU between GOVERNMENT OF LAO PDR GIANT GROUP LIMITED The Government of the Lao Peoples Democratic Republic has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Giant Group Limited (GGL) (a Company incorporated in the British Virgin Island) on the 10th of November 2008 for the survey and design of the railway construction of the part of Lao National Railway Network from Savannakhet to Lao Bao which is approximately 220 km on a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer basis. At the signing ceremony held at Novotel, the Government of Laos was represented by Mr. Phetsamone VIRAPHANTH the Deputy Director General, Department of Planning and Cooperation while GGL was represented by its Vice President Mr. Muhammad Falah Bin MOHAMMAD FADZWI. Also present during the MOU is H.E. Sommard Pholsena, the Minister of Public Works and Transport. Other Directors of the relevant Ministries was also present. After signing of the MOU with the Government of Lao, GGL also signed with DigiMap Sdn. Bhd. a surveying company as their Project Management Consultant (PMC) headed by Mr. Muhammad Firhat. The third MOU was also signed with TMK Holding Sdn. Bhd. a Mechanical and Electrical Engineering company headed by Dr. Stephen Tock The Savannakhet to Lao Bao railway project comprise of 220 km of electrified railway track 3 Main stations, 7 General Stations, 1 Maintenance Base, 2 Immigration Control Offices, Training Centre complete with staff welfare facilities. The project is estimated to cost US$3.0 Billion with expected construction period of 8 years. This project will connect up Savannakhet, Kaysone District to Atsaphangthong, Phalarn, Phin and Sepone Districts (Daensavanh Village). In addition this project will provide a strategic connection with Laos 2 neighbouring countries, Muk Dahan (Thailand) in the west and Lao Bao (Vietnam) in the east and onward connection to the sea port of Danang. This project is in line with the Governments policy for the development of social-economic infrastructure for the benefit of its people while creating job opportunities and will attract investments to further boosting the local and cross border trades and economic activities. GGL is one of Asias foremost international professional investment funding and asset management institutions with office in Hong Kong, Lao PDR and Malaysia. Its President, Mr. Mohammad Fadzwi Bin HAMIDUN explained GGLs unique entrepreneurial businesses approaches that integrate people, resources and technology in providing clients with forward-thinking and innovative solutions to their financial challenges. He emphasised GGLs believes in creating partnerships that develop and realize into long term success. "For example, in this project, we are working closely with DigiMap Sdn. Bhd. to provide the project management consultancy services, TMK Holdings Sdn. Bhd. to undertake the design and construction of System, Mechanical and Electrical works and to undertake the design, construction and completion of civil engineering, trackworks and buildings, not to forget in giving opportunity for the local and working closely with them.
