Nov 2, 2009 - depends on your weight and skill level. if you want to go shorter try out a fun board. san diego's craigslist is perfect for a decent funboard or if you choose to go another route, tons of boards on there.

Nov 2, 2009 - With your weight, and the fact that waves on the east coast are relatively small compared to out west here, I'd say go with a longboard. Maybe 8'6 or so. That's what I ride, and it's REALLY easy to get up.
