Nov 19, 2009 - RESPONSE TO 6:10 The Apollonius example to defend the disbelief in a Messianic Jesus is absolutely absurd. Apollonius' story is EXACTLY the same as Jesus... It's quite unfortunate that ancient copyright laws didn't exist back then isn't it? A theory that multiple messianic figures existed thus the Jesus story should not be trusted is absurd because all indications point towards fraudulent copycats rather than accurate representation of historical fact. Be realistic.

collins1188 Says:

Nov 19, 2009 - Furthermore, you may ask, "How do you know the Jesus story didn't copy Apollonius??? Look... if it did, why aren't Christian's worshiping Apollonius instead of Jesus? When things seem to be too good to be true, they probably are. This is the same for evidence to support your claims. Apollonius was born in 15 AD. Clearly, the Jesus story came first. These kinds of videos are simply propaganda machines that deliberately distort the facts to create doubt in order to support their agenda.

Nov 19, 2009 - "To prove that a knife exists.. does not prove that there was a murder..." If the knife told you God existed and sent Jesus to save you, would you believe then? I'm just making an equally rediculous refutation as yours. I hope you found it as amusing as I found yours.

pmcollectorboy Says:

Nov 20, 2009 - Why in blue blazes would a knife tell me that God exists? The point of these videos is that there ARE similarities between accepted monotheistic religions and old mythologies. The point of THIS video is to show the utter absurdities of the Bible, which is accepted as being absolute truth when it was really just written by men. And there have been other so called messianic stories and stories of gods impregnating women before. And Susan makes a valid point about the knife.

Nov 20, 2009 - see exactly what mikee said. how did you get ur degree in biology anyway with that kind of thinking. penn jillette is the man.

Jakeblood240 Says:

Nov 20, 2009 - If you keep trying to read the Bible like a text book or manual you're going to continue to be confused and frustrated. Simply it allegory and metaphors written in the early language of the Bronze age. It kind of makes sense. If God tried to communicate to the people of the time about electrons and heavy forces the "message" would have certainly been lost. Just as if God tried to convey his message to the dinosaurs for instance. These people just cant get out of their linear thought.

Jakeblood240 Says:

Nov 20, 2009 - Sorry that's just B.S. (pun intended). Saying homosexuality is a sin is a stand-alone issue. Saying children should respect their parents is also a truth laid out in principle in the bible. Means and methods of punishment are also a separate discussion. Saying they are both "sinful" is not. He fails at making a point, its apples and oranges. If you think you should stone someone for anything makes you simply a biblical literalist, which is the only way he can create his argument.

Jakeblood240 Says:

Nov 20, 2009 - The issue is literalism really. If i interpret scientific materialism from the same literal perspective it too is morally bankrupt. Science and materialism does not provide me with adequate authority not to kill, including myself or others. Therefore, by the principles of science is murder and suicide justified? Most would say no. But if you interpret it so narrowly, as they do the bible, you could attribute that principle (or lack of) to science. Equally ridiculous.

Nov 20, 2009 - @collins1188, I'm with pmcollectorboy on this one.... what is this about a talking knife.. if that happened, i'd b checking my drink to see if some1 slipped something into it! In case u didn't understand my metaphor (which seems to be the case) My point about the jesus and knife thing is that... to prove the existence of jesus does not prove the existence of a god..for jesus was no more than a mere mortal like u and me.

SusanCookie Says:

Nov 20, 2009 - Also.. whats the point in proving who was born first (Apollonius or Jesus).. both were just humans if they existed... to go by a belief based on who was born first is absurd... There were plenty of other "saviours" before jesus (look up egyptian history).. Wasn't the earth believed to be flat at first?.. does that make it a fact?.. point made!

theMindGrasP Says:

Nov 20, 2009 - pics or it never happened(that being Jesus ofc)

willywillboc Says:

Nov 21, 2009 - Ah the great debate the funny neither can be proven because christans like me believe god created the heaven and the earth leaving a whole bunch of open ended answers to questions science community cant exept then on the otherside there the big bang therory sciences answer to creation but what or who caused the big bang in the end its pointless to argue neither side will ever say there wrong you believe what you want to just dont press your way of thinking on me and I will do the same .

willywillboc Says:

Nov 21, 2009 - Science uses what humans call rational thinking meaning everything that happens has cause and a reason down too the smallest microbe . But faith spits in the face of that because its supernatural theirs no way to explain it.jesus was born of a virgin mother was the son of the most powerful entity fathomable lived a sinnless life performed feats of scientific impossibilty died and rose from the dead, pause the dead!! thats a hard pill too swallow for alot of peaple.but that is what faith is

gamingeagle19 Says:

Nov 21, 2009 - interesting but what they failed to mention is that the Bible was written by several dozen mortal men in a time where those insane laws(stoning children etc) were accepted so of course they would add that to the bible. What Christians follow is the teachings of Jesus Christ which were love and peace and the golden rule.

WolfishNuckajuh Says:

Nov 21, 2009 - haha veese peeple r trying to make fun of da bible sayin theres no evidence and ven vey show actual footage off peeple crosing the red see at 4.07 so vey r dum muvers lol

deckard9757 Says:

Nov 21, 2009 - gamingeagle19, how do you know that the same doesn't apply to the NT? What about the rest of the gospels rejected by the Council of Nicea? Consider this - the fidelity of the gospels has been called into question by the author of the Gospel of Luke who lied about the requirements of the Quirinius Census in order to fulfill prophecy. Who can you trust?

EdM021 Says:

Nov 21, 2009 - That footage is from Hollywood!!!! Who is the "dum muver" now???

Nov 22, 2009 - Instead of attacking the Christians.... Why not attack Muslims??? Oh, that's off limits! You don't want to offend the "religion of peace"... I really like Penn and Teller. This is where I disagree.. God's work cannot be understood or analyzed... Here's a question for the scientists.... Where does the universe end? And if it does, what's beyond it??? HAving trouble with that one? Don't feel bad because NO ONE knows... Only God does..

pmcollectorboy Says:

Nov 22, 2009 - Hey. There's everybody's favorite racist bigot Christian again.

pmcollectorboy Says:

Nov 22, 2009 - My life is actually quite happy without religion, thank you very much. Especially now that I'm actually thinking for myself.
