If it really was a method that was generally accepted as "superior", then we would have nothing but earth-aged cymbals. There's not worth an extra $500 of things going on there, believe me. The cymbals oxidate like normal, even if they are covered in dirt. They are under some more pressure for a length of time which may have a slight effect on the sound they produce, but then again so would some more extensive hammering.

As said in the video, "We'll see how it goes"? Doesn't look like the cage was buried very deep or for very long either...

Aug 19, 2009 - It would be hilarious if they dug in the wrong spot and spent a whole day just digging up the field LAMFO....But seriously What i think they should do is record how the cymbals sounds and the metal details and everything and then they should bury them in different types of dirt and leave them for a year then when they dig it up compare sound and the metal but if theres no solid proof that the dirt affects their sound then no F-ing way i am spending an extra 150 on them

Sep 16, 2009 - Because you failed to read anything before making your comment. We'll see how it goes. They said that because they were not trying to prove anything, and were not experimenting. They kept receiving requests and it came to the point they did it for those who requested. They arent doing this as a gimmick more than they are to satisfy the curiousity of the 100+ people who asked for them to do it, and thus preordered it. They arent trying to market them as theyve already been sold.

An autographed baseball card is not made of 500$ paper and 500$ ink. The burial aging was requested of them by a niche group of customers, a niche group of customers preordered them, a niche group of customers received them, and now a different niche group of people (with you included) want to criticise them for doing this.
