Oct 27, 2009 - i wonder what it would be like if christa made it all the way up to space and the space shuttle didnt blow up. i went to the challenger center a couple weeks ago for a field trip and the life support crew on our team on the shuttle forgot about the oxygen levels so we all went to emergency form and had to wear masks lol but it was manifestly fake. but super fun! and the probe scientist on board took off his gloves in the clean room and the ships sirens [above my head :( ] went off lol plz sub

Tim733733 Says:

Nov 5, 2009 - Yep. Couple of things to recent comments, the commentator is NASA PAO at JSC in Houston. He's not even watching the TV, he's reading off a script and the calls he can hear from the controllers. The shuttle launches downrange, so you can't see the same view as those on TV. On the TV images you can see Challenger desperately trying to correct her tragectory, gimballing her SSMEs and SRB TVCs to max in the opposite direction, but she was already doomed. RIP Challenger and her crew.

Nov 11, 2009 - I saw both space shuttles come apart. First one was from Lakeland Fla when I was in 11th grade. Next was from Euless Tx getting ready to go to work. I will never watch another launch again. Bad Luck.

MRJL100 Says:

Nov 12, 2009 - Very sad, Amazing what shock does to people, they just didn't realise at first that all the crew had instantly been killed, as for Christa McAuliffe's parents it must have been terrible to see that, i cant actually think of anything worse to happen to a parent, the reason they dont appear to be bothered is because the camera gives you a bad idea of what they can see, its not obvious to them from the ground whats actually going on when it explodes. RIP

bphussar Says:

Nov 12, 2009 - When do the people actually know that it exploded? It doesnt seem that they notice for a while.

rodrigoaal18 Says:

furgee Says:

Nov 17, 2009 - Actually hey believe the astronauts were still alive until the cabin hit the water 2 minutes later

MRJL100 Says:

Nov 17, 2009 - Yes, come to think of it i remember reading about that, it was the g-force that actually killed them, i dont think they were concious though.

da40flyer Says:

Nov 17, 2009 - It's not that they didn't care. They just didn't know. Remember, it's going 2000 mph away from them and climbing, 9 miles high, 7 miles downrange and the viewing area is another 3 miles away. So they really are a long way away, and probably have never seen an in person launch, which having seen a couple in person, they look quite different in person than they do on tv.

da40flyer Says:

Nov 17, 2009 - The people who had been there and seen launches before knew immediately that something was up. There were lots of people who hadn't seen one in person though, this was their first time. It did take quite a while for them to realize what happened.

MienaiKemuri Says:
