Nov 19, 2009 - This works perfectly guys. You NEED to do the overheating, even if your xbox powers up fine after you do everything. And when you do the reheating, plug your fan in, but take it out of its spot and just put it over the cpu heatsink. This way, it cools the cpu, but lets the gpu heat up and reconnect. (the gpu is the real problem for error 74)

I thought I had done everything right, powered it up, tried to play halo and it overheated and turned off. So, I took it apart, loosened the screws just a little bit, and it worked perfectly. It's been working fine ever since. What you're trying to do is have the heatsink for the gpu (its underneath the shorter heatsink) be just MICROMETERS above the chip.

Nov 20, 2009 - No they won't accept it they may here is a tip of advice if you take it apart don't screw the screws on tight or they will know you took it apart the companies tend to leave the screws not tight so if there is a problem and they are sent the item and they and the screws are tight they won't accept it hope this helps
