Nov 21, 2009 - FYI: this was recorded less than a year before Bernstein died of lung cancer. The entire cast was sick with the flu. Jerry Hadley later committed suicide in 2007. Adolph Green has also died since. The show was not a box office success on Broadway, but soon found a dedicated following. If you haven't seen and entire show and listened carefully to the lyrics, you really should. Kristen Chenoweth performed this with Balt. Sym. conductor Marin Alsop - it's a real HOOT; Chenoweth is Brilliant!

Nov 21, 2009 - We played this in high school. It was a hoot the first runnd-through we made of it, when we hit all the time changes toward the end of Candide. We just burst out laughing. We got it eventually. We liked it enough to work through the tough time changes. There will always be the avoidable cracked reed in th clarinet section, but...you'll be glad you played this. :)

Nov 23, 2009 - I played this in high school also. This overture is truly magical especially the part where the French horns and saxophones play their parts before the climax.
