Jun 1, 2009 - What a great job!! I though these components were much more hard to soldering. I have a cheap 60W soldering iron but i don't know if it is apropriate for this kind of components. Maybe it's to much hot... :-s

NutsandGuts Says:

Jun 4, 2009 - yes, get a 40W one and you should be fine :)

Jun 15, 2009 - I start out desoldering the IC then sooner or later rip it out with the dikes. I just don't have the patience or the steady hand I used to. I hate getting old my soldering skills have tarnished too. Bummer !

Jun 26, 2009 - Great video, but what on earth does 'oftentimes' mean? It's a made-up word!

Jul 10, 2009 - Excellent technique on small scale soldering by hand, it's truly an art form!

Aug 8, 2009 - Thanks this this excellent video! I will certainly be using some of these techniques in the future.

Aug 12, 2009 - Absolutely fantastic mate. You make it look so bloody easy. I just about needed glasses to view the fricking video lol

Aug 20, 2009 - It seem to me there are tons of videos on soldering or removing SMD chips but none on finding out which chips are bad so that you know which ones to remove and replace.

Aug 28, 2009 - ugh i hate surface mounting... through hole is so much easier.

Sep 19, 2009 - Flux Pens are nice, but if you don't use it often, the flux may dump out all over your work as the tip breaks.

Sep 23, 2009 - Was just tested for a tech position and I have to say, I paint fantasy miniatures...man, I thought THOSE were small. These people are willing to train and, having never done this before, I was shown "the basics" of it before I was let loose to try my hand at it. Sure wish I had watched this damn video before hand because the "basics" I was shown made it seem MUCH harder than this. I did ok, but a little messy. Watching this first sure would have helped :(

Oct 2, 2009 - Guess we'll get them when either replacement chips get expensive (unlikely atleast for consumer stuff) or labor to do diagnosis gets cheap and plentiful. I've found some old books about troubleshooting appliances but in this age of complex tiny cheap throw away china made stuff it doesn't make much sense. If you love diagnosing what the real root of the problem is, better work at some software or ic design company I would think.

Oct 11, 2009 - This is awesome! I wish I could solder like that...

Oct 18, 2009 - can anyone tell me doesnt the heat screw up new components like the SMD IC's

Nov 8, 2009 - The video is great,but how about 0201 parts?

h2oextremepcs Says:

Nov 12, 2009 - Your slodering skills are amazing. I wish I could solder like that, but I guess with the right tools equipment a bit of practise I could be nearly as good.

k313k Says:

Nov 15, 2009 - I'm ANSI certified for all forms of SMT and I absolutely hate 201's. 402's are hard enough, why must they make them smaller!

dannypanchiao Says:

Nov 18, 2009 - I agree too ~
