Nov 1, 2009 - It is true that the technology was not influenced by it, but many designs for things have been.

Treemeadow Says:

Nov 2, 2009 - This hurts almost as much as when the realisation hit me that the new movie killed the whole timeline. Its like they wiped out everything from before (after...whatever!) I hope they rectify the timeline. Otherwise I'm organising the first Breakaway Denomination of the fandom. Fundamentalist Trekism. The ones who don't believe in the "Latter Revelations of JJ Abrams"

FingerGunProductions Says:

Nov 2, 2009 - i think that end line was so powerful and strange. it's like he knew it was over. so powerful. and he is the shit.

FingerGunProductions Says:

Nov 2, 2009 - um did michael bay direct the explosion scene

lephong Says:

Nov 3, 2009 - I don't think it really wiped it out. The movie was an alternative universe so this event still exists as well as the timeline itself. It was an interpretation that tried to show themes like the tv series like Spock's identity as a vulcan and human. Destiny and free will etc.

Treemeadow Says:

Nov 3, 2009 - But how did it become an alternative universe? The time travel was no different from any other time travel in Star Trek, and that always changed history, never created an alternate timeline. Sure, its only fiction and they can say that to appease the fans, but it defies the logic of the world they created.

lephong Says:

Nov 3, 2009 - i think maybe they based it on the theory that every choice made creates another universe and that there are infinite universes with all the choices we made and ones we didn't. It's just a theory. I could be completely wrong.

MrHoppers002 Says:

Nov 3, 2009 - data isn't so sad because if he made a copy of his brain you can just upload it to another android. You can't do that with kirk.

MrHoppers002 Says:

Nov 3, 2009 - there was a hint in star trek V he always knew he'd die alone on a empty planet

MrHoppers002 Says:

Nov 3, 2009 - every choice creates a different timeline. Infinite timeline theory that the new movie is based on.

Treemeadow Says:

Nov 3, 2009 - Possibly.

Treemeadow Says:

Nov 3, 2009 - I don't remember where this infinite timeline theory was introduced. When was it first mentioned?

MrHoppers002 Says:

Nov 3, 2009 - it's implied by the writers and fans. When nero killed Kirk's father this created a different timeline were Kirk didn't grow up with his father and became a rebel vs. his other timeline where he did grow up with his father and became a well cultured starfleet officer.

Treemeadow Says:

Nov 4, 2009 - Yes, but what about in the original series, The City on the Edge of Forever? McCoy changed the history, and it didn't create a new timeline. It just changed history. How is this any different? I mean, of course, apart from the writers technically being able to make it into anything they want. Inside the fictional world of Star Trek, how is it any different?

realwiener Says:

Nov 4, 2009 - he was simply the best captain of them all!RIP jim,we will never forget you!

MrHoppers002 Says:

Nov 4, 2009 - now that episode isn't creating a new timeline. It's simply restoring a timeline that the TOS crew is from back to it's original setting. Remember McCoy altered the past. Therefore creating a whole new timeline where the federation doesn't exist in the future. Kirk and his landing party aren't affected because the guardian is immune to all time changes. They go back and restore their timeline. But the other timeline which McCoy interfered with still exists in star trek.

KeromorV2 Says:

Nov 5, 2009 - He says he knew he wouldnt die because he wasnt alone, he doesnt mention on an empty planet but he wasnt alone, picard was there.

bubblesisrad Says:

Nov 6, 2009 - I thought star trek was surposed to be all cool and shit and he just falls and gets impaled... lame And hes really not alone Picard is right there.

bubblesisrad Says:

Nov 6, 2009 - I didn't read the comment below me.

mykotron Says:

Nov 6, 2009 - dude.. Kiik is younger than Picard here.. and Picard came out on top. Obviously Picard is the greatest captain... bet he can't wait to get back to the enterprise and just talk smack about how much of a puss ol' Kirk was down there.

MrHoppers002 Says:

Nov 6, 2009 - that rule only applies if mccoy or spock is there. Picard doesn't count.

MrHoppers002 Says:

Nov 6, 2009 - No he would go back to the enterprise and tell everyone soran whooped his ass, it took the legendary james kirk to beat down soran, stop the missile, and fall off a cliff with a bridge on top of him while not being crushed into jello. James T. Kirk IS the man.

seesnapefly Says:

Nov 8, 2009 - I definitely agree. xD

BeyondTheGates87 Says:

Nov 8, 2009 - picard's 54 and kirk's 62 here.

MrHoppers002 Says:

Nov 8, 2009 - In this movie Picard is 65. Kirk is 60 or 62.
