Oct 9, 2009 - It was an American achievement. Yes it was based upon a German design (Von Braun), and that design was based on an American design (Goddard). But remember, it was the Americans, not the Chinese, English, Russians, Germans, or the French that pulled it off. It was Americans.

Oct 11, 2009 - If anyone's wondering what the instruments are in the first segment, the "wailing" instrument is an Armenian duduk (the composer Bear McCreary is half-Armenian) and the percussion is provided by Japanese taiko drums. Search YouTube for "galactica precipice" to find another McCreary track that uses both instruments to great effect!

Oct 11, 2009 - Who cares if it was the Americans who did it? I think of it as a celebration of humanity's capabilities and quests for knowledge and exploration.

Oct 14, 2009 - The engineering gives you the vision but the music really makes it hit home. Without music it's sterile. With the music it brings a tear to your eye. Not to spam but if you like this one check out the HD Saturn V launch to Vangelis on Sonicbomb.

Oct 14, 2009 - I agree... However, this was a HUGE defining moment in American history. Yes, it was for ALL mankind. But, this was when America pulled TOGETHER to achieve the impossible. I was 11 years old when Apollo 11 was launched. I don't remember anyone waving the flag or anything like that. I do remember a sense of victory with the fact that we beat the Russians. I can still remember in July of 1969 looking at the Moon and being blown away by the fact that we(humans) were actually there. God bless you...

Oct 22, 2009 - Truly a beautiful flying machine, the Saturn V. Dont think we'll ever see anything quite like her again. A Work of pure genius, that's what happens when nations spend money on science and exploration rather than war and killing.

Oct 24, 2009 - Look up "Prandtl-Glauert singularity" on Wikipedia to see an explanation of what the vapor cone is and why it forms.

Oct 30, 2009 - You couldn't have picked a better song for the first clip. Everything was timed perfectly, the mood of the music paralleled the film so well. The solo and the mystifying behaviour of the escaped and recaptured fuel, the long calm buildup with falling ice, the climax with liftoff. Just perfect.
lutefisk73 Says:
Oct 31, 2009 - The songs are "Baltar's Dream" and "Roslin and Adama" from the Battlestar Galactica Season 2 soundtrack CD by Bear McCreary.
