Aug 3, 2009 - if you google it you'll find a better and more accurate explanation than i can give you. it was started by a science club back in the day and has to do with the type of rock that is found in kansas that can be used for sidewalk chalk or something like that

Aug 9, 2009 - Campus is built "on top" of Mt Oread which has a lot of chalk in its foundations. The "Chalk Rock" was flipped to "Rock Chalk" to make it flow more easily as a chant. ROCK CHALK KU!

Sep 3, 2009 - actually none of those are right... it is use to rah rah jayhawk KU, but a chem professor wanted a chant for his science club, so they used rock chalk ( which in lawrence, there is alot of limestone and they called it chalk rock) so they just flipped it around and it just got goin and everyone loved it so here it is now

Sep 8, 2009 - Rah Rah Jayhawk was the original chant during the Civil War. Jayhawkers are known as residents or natives of Kansas and the term was coined during the civil war when Kansas joined the Union against the South after Lawrence was burnt down killing women and children. Rah Rah Jayhawk was their victory chant.
