Aug 15, 2009 - Right and therefore it proves what? :-) Are we somehow being myopic here? Woodstock was not about the music only; music was a part of Woodstock. It represented the spirit of a generation!

brabon1 Says:

Aug 15, 2009 - im tired of these wingnut freaks trying to rewrite history every chance they get this was indeed 3 days of peace and music...the promoters lost money, and didnt care (although they revamped most on the film and album) the hippie movement was a tiny subculture...the majority of attendees were middle class kids who wanted to go to an event as noted on npr, this was the first viral event (although i still believe that honor goes to the original save star trek campaign)

Hdogbreakdalaw Says:

Aug 15, 2009 - this truly is beautiful, happy 40th birthday! I wish we had more good music instead of these trashy singles and ringtone jingles now a days...its all about the money. You can even get woodstock shrits at target, =[ its like kids dont understand why thats wronge or why they tie died shrits, now its the hip thing, smoke weed too.

Aug 15, 2009 - Where the toilets?

vansoth Says:

Aug 15, 2009 - That's true, and he was compensated. He received 50,000 dollars (which was a lot more money at the time...) because of what happened to his farm.

vansoth Says:

Aug 15, 2009 - Made little sense that he was sued...considering that he had no idea what was going to happen.

cshargeit Says:

Aug 15, 2009 - nobody told me about the save star trek campaign.

riskit4thebiscuit Says:

Aug 15, 2009 - why is that wrong? sorry i dont mean to argue, i just want to know why :)

faeryquene Says:

Aug 15, 2009 - I agree. It made me a little sad for him when I read about Woodstock years later. I understand he agreed to allow the organizers to use his land-I don't understand why frankly they did not foot the bill for any damages to surrounding farmlands.

faeryquene Says:

Aug 15, 2009 - I know! I read he died he suffered a heart attack. :( I truly feel he promoted (without truly realizing it) in his way the spirit of music in all it's genres for that era simply by allowing those young hippies to use his land. He truly should be inducted in the rock n roll hall of fame as an honorary member imo.

vansoth Says:

Aug 16, 2009 - Well I know they gave him 50,000 dollars, although this was probably not enough to fix everything. I think its really unfair that he was sued by the other farmers later on when he really had no idea what was going to happen.

wincliff Says:

Aug 16, 2009 - Hi there :-) "Why" you ask. Because smoking weed and wearing tie dyed is not wrong but that was not the ONLY idea back then. It was just a way of life, just a fashion that suited the way people thought (at least the younger generation). The core idea was however different. The idea was to have a world without hate and war, the idea was to achieve a world where the Big Brother does not determine how I think! I think that's the reason why Hdogbreakdalaw said what he said :-) Peace!

corgi4u Says:

Aug 16, 2009 - Many great books describe what happened at Woodstock as well as the movie and soundtrack. Forget the idiots that wanna change history. If you wanna change history, change future history by being a better person today. Take care of your neighbor, be kind, be helpful, be friendly, follow the ethics of Woodstock and maybe we can change all the bad thats going on now. C'mon people now, smile on your brother, everybody get together try to love one another right now!

wincliff Says:

Aug 16, 2009 - To all those who rue why a nuke was not dropped on Woodstock, please read these beautiful lines from Joni Mitchell's song "Woodstock" By the time we got to Woodstock We were half a million strong And everywhere there was song and celebration And I dreamed I saw the bombers Riding shotgun in the sky And they were turning into butterflies Above our nation We are stardust Billion year old carbon We are golden Caught in the devil's bargain And we've got to get ourselves Back to the garden.

wincliff Says:

Aug 16, 2009 - Hi corgi4u, beautiful thoughts you penned :-) Cheers and Peace!

Aug 16, 2009 - it wouldn't have happened w/o enough money. peace, love cash.

Aug 19, 2009 - Some youths championed Max Yasgur as an unofficial presidential candidate in 1972. He would certainly have turned out better than the ultimate victor of that contest....

furry138 Says:

Aug 20, 2009 - They should make a movie and have Eugene Levy play that guy.

718alterego Says:

Aug 22, 2009 - What impresses me about it now is that it was the bridging of generations in some ways. Not only was Max gracious, I've seen videos of people from the surrounding towns who said the kids were all really nice. In a turbulent time, many were awestruck by what happened on that farm for one weekend.

wincliff Says:

Aug 22, 2009 - Hello Steve You got it absolutely right, I think! And after visiting your channel it's no wonder that you are speaking from first hand experience! My perception of Woodstock is something very similar. People did not expect that sort of thing. In that age of turmoil, Woodstock was a symbol of harmony, of peace. And now when I think about it I so long for such a "sign" in our time. We need a Woodstock desperately ! Cheers!
