Sep 8, 2009 - 4:43 . I was (almost) on the floor. And I think 5:00 was probably the most Tex-Avery- esque thing I've seen in a Disney toon.

Nov 21, 2009 - Seemed like I can remember watching these thinking most snobby upper-crust types were that way. Didn't know any personally, but nowadays that sort of attention to speech isn't really done much anymore, and they pretty much act like anyone else (besides wealth and class).

Nov 22, 2009 - behemuth: "what always beats me is how anyone can think mickey is funny?" Mickey may not be as funny a character as Donald, but in all fairness most people are not familiar with who Mickey really is. He was severely blanded down in the early 1940s and stayed that way for over fifty years. But before that, he was a very gutsy, scrappy type. Especially in the comic, which told much more elaborate stories than the cartoons ever did. Look up the name "Floyd Gottfredson."
Marbles471 Says:
Nov 22, 2009 - Yeah, one of the main things I notice in older movies---even some made as late as the mid '70s, though by then usually starring older actors---is how differently people spoke. I'm not sure if it was a common dialect or if it was an affected "actor" accent that was just part of film convention (movies were much more stylized back then---today they feel more or less realistic). But in any case, I think of it as a "dead" variant of American accent because it's simply not heard today.
sygo7g Says:
Nov 22, 2009 - That is quite true. I like to think my mom grew up among those type of people (when she lived near the central part of town) prior to eventually marrying my dad (blue-collar type) and moved to the 'burbs. :-)
behemuth Says:
Nov 22, 2009 - True, early mickey had alot of what was later attributed to donald, but i also think that it has something to do with mickey not being a part of the war propaganda, seamed like they choose donald, and ot some extent goofy and stuck by em, in later years the mickey comics always tried to make mickey out to be some kind of role model... but frankley he sucked.
